I think I am in love with Howard Dean.


I saw him give a speech on C-Span tonight, and frankly, Scarlet, I'm impressed.

:) Isn't he wonderful? I could go on and on about why, but you already know if you've seen him speak ... You know there's a Howard Dean community on LJ, right?

I didn't.... but now I do, thanks :) Yes, I'm very impressed with not only what he's saying, but how he's saying it. It feels very sincere.

Exactly! I feel like Dean, out of all the candidates, actually has a fair amount of integrity.

So many people have latched onto him because he's been so outspoken in opposing the war, but he always makes a point of warning the anti-war crowd that he's not a total pacifist. :) Which is fine - it's not a perfect world. Still, though, I don't believe he'd ever lie to get the nation to go to war. I don't believe he's controlled by corporate greed. I don't believe he would ever go to war without a very good reason. I think he's got more integrity and sanity in his little pinkie than most of the other Democratic candidates, and of course way more than Dubya.

:) And his environmental platform is good. And so is his civil liberties record (You've heard about the civil unions thing he signed into law in Vermont?).

I read an article on AlterNet a few weeks ago, slamming him because he's a conservative fiscally (I think he even calls himself a conservative when it comes to economy), but it was not an accurate depiction of his position. I've read his speeches and position papers. He's not an all-out advocate of free trade - instead, he's proposing a compromise between free and fair trade, taking advantage of the best of both systems to expand international commerce without killing whole communities through job loss, and without promoting sweatshop labor conditions. There's a speech from February where he states very clearly what he thinks the problems are with things like NAFTA - something you would never hear from a true conservative.

:) Anyway, yes, I am also a big Dean fan - he's well-deserving of your admiration.
