My dad is doing okay. He ended up with a quintuple bypass, but the doctor said the last two were "just in case", and so they don't risk having to go back in later. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but whatever, if it saves him another surgery down the line, that's great.

I was at the hospital this morning, and they had him sitting up in the recliner, he was awake, and getting yelled at by the nurses for talking too much. He's in good spirits, and I think he's going to bounce back just fine. He'll be in ICU for a couple days, and hopefully by Friday he'll be in a regular room, and hopefully he'll he able to go home Sunday or Monday.

They were trying to get him to go to a nursing facility for a couple weeks, since he lives alone, but he's pretty adamant he doesn't want that, so my brother and I will be trying to devise a way to get someone with him pretty constantly next week. At the very least, someone needs to be there to wrangle the dogs, which isn't easy, because Woody is really wary of most people. So I don't know what's going to happen, but we're going to wait till the weekend to figure it out.

I'm at work today, and I'm really tired. I think I will be in bed very early tonight. I'll be with Habibi all day tomorrow, and then off on Friday, so I'm thinking of going out there Friday to Saturday. I have commandeered his Explorer to make the trips between the city and the suburbs easier.

I think that's the info that needs to be passed on. I'm going to go back to watching Emma, and listening for a waking baby.

"quintuple" is what david letterman had.

I'm going to have to tell him about all the people talking about Letterman nd his bypass- he'll get a kick out of that.

well, he recovered rather visibly so it makes for a nice reference point. ;) and the fact is, they're getting more and more common/routine.

Yeah, it seemed to me that the scariest part was just him being under anasthesia, and from here on out its just waiting to heal. I'm pretty impressed.

Boy, I'll say! I sure agree with that (since I'm the parent, not the kid).

Best wishes to you as you cope with your dad's illness. The good thing is, they caught it in time. My dad had heart problems, but didn't do much about it, and on April 15, 1998 he died suddenly as he was driving home. I miss him still! Take time with your dad as much as you can. You won't regret it.

Sending love.

Glad to hear things are going on the positive. I remember all too well how torn up I was when my Mom was sick back in '01. Not a good feeling at all. You take care too...

IIRC the more bypasses the better, but I can't at all remember why.

VC, your dad may be amazed at how much help he needs. Is there someone he could move in with for a week or so? He won't be able to lift very much, for example, so stuff like laundry is right out. Does he cook using aluminum pans or cast iron? Stuff like that.

Take care! Say hi to Emma for me.
