Oh, good, I'm not the only one to have wikisearched it.
I'm thinking of all the invasions that the U.S. has instigated, all without having to go beyond DefCon 3. I don't think you'd need to change defcon status to try to kick winter's ass, you just need to declare emergency powers and get funding from congress without having to do the paperwork of declaring war.
Anyway, it seems clear from the context, that DefCon 1 is really code for "continuing military operations during and after a nuclear holocaust with Soviet Russia". I think the whole protocol is due for a remodel, but not until some kind of legitimate change has occured in "The War on with Terror".
I might need to side with the conspiracy theorists on this one: Global Warming could be seen as a long-term campaign against Winter, that has bypassed all the usual channels for such large projects. It's a vast experiment that's been marketed as"Business as Usual".
I will keep that in mind :-) Actually, I loved Seattle when I was out there, even though I didn't get to see much. Its just too bad so many people I love so much are in Chicago! Perhaps we can try to meld the two cities?
I think all but one that we share on our lists I know from a mailing list. I think, if I recall correctly, that tacit is the only one not involved with the aforementioned list.
i feel like winter is going to end one day and the next it will be a blazing hot summer. i am not looking forward to the heat. id rather be cold and have to wear extra clothes than sweat my bum off walking two feet. damn this global warming!!! i miss my seasons!
I used to be that way, but as I age it goes the other way around. I've actually dealt with the heat really well the last few years- much of it is because I wear tank tops and sundresses EVERYWHERE :-)
