So [livejournal.com profile] fille_de_livre and [livejournal.com profile] ahn1010, despite their collective injuries, took their niece to the American Girl Store over the weekend so she could pick out a doll.

There, they discovered a disturbing thing: a new doll.

What's so disturbing (or extra disturbing, if you aready find the AG franchise to be so) about this new doll?

Well, keep in mind that the AG books and their related paraphernalia are supposed to be historic.

Meet Julie, the '70s girl!

Feel old yet?

We agreed that when they come out with the '80s historical doll we're all going to check into the nursing home together.

The worst thing? Absolute worst?

I WANT THAT DOLL!!!! WANT WANT WANT!!!!

The clincher?

Look familiar?

Yeah.

I think this doll is me. What do you think?

Wow. Since when is the 70's historic? I mean, I was BORN in the 70's. It is damn cute, though. I can totally see you having that bed.

And may I mention I'm elated to see you posting!

Yeah, well, we're historic now, too :-) Her bedroom colors and style, minus the purple, is actually almost exactly what I'm going for in my bedroom. I take it as an omen.

I'm happy to be posting again, too. I had the energy, and finally found something to say. I was SO happy after last night that I sang to my iPod at the top of my lungs for the whole walk home- part of why I was so happy was that I made the four-block walk with minimal pain escalation. Just cross your fingers that this holds for awhile :-)

*fingers crossed*

I had also been past Centro Romero so many times, and never really looked into it. It sounds like what you'll be doing there is really, really cool and means a lot to the people who go there, and Chicago, and the world. I don't want to blow it out of purportion, but so much these days is said about immigration -- it's one of those hot-button topics I hear a lot about out here because of the farm-labor in a very agricultural state.

I look forward to hearing more about it!

I thought '70s was "retro". *LOL*

"Historic" is a horse of an entirely different color. When I think "historic" I think Victorian or earlier. *LOL*

I was born in 1980.

I have only 1 problem with this doll. She is suppose to be the Bicentennial doll. That was in 76 not 74.

I don't understand. Otherwise she is pretty ok, hippy-ness and all. And if she is you (I haven't seen you in ages!) well then you should have her.
I was always a favorite of Samantha. Since at the time the only black doll they had was Addie the escaped slave. I mean I know she wasn't a slave, but she was too close to that time period for me to actually like here and her clothes and accessories were crap.

I would argue that that's a little more 1968 or 1969... but mostly because I really, really don't want to be feeling as old as being born in 1970 is making me feel right now. :)

Anneliese and I realized that were Julie not from SF and, oh, not fictional, she could have been our babysitter. That is wierd. Her accessories included jiffy pop popcorn, and the tupperware kool-aid pitcher.

All she needs now is your beautiful reddish hair and yeah, that's you all right.

Heh, well my natural hair color is actually quite close to this one. I've been henna-ing it for so long I'm not sure who knew me when I was still blonde!
