This is very sobering news. Not shocking, but we always hoped it would be different.

Date: 2007-05-01 11:34 pm (UTC)The preferred term (in American papers as well) seem to be "Nuclear Whistleblower" which is encouraging, no? The Washington Post has only one quote, which is Vanunu saying "additional proof that there is no democracy in Israel".
I guess I was expecting a lot more like "Proud Zionist Lady", who wrote a comment in the Jerusalem Post comparing him to the Rosenbergs... a) as if Vanunu had been giving out information about how to construct a weapon, and not merely information about who had already constructed one, and b) as if the execution of the Rosenbergs wasn't already one of the more shameful things we've done as a country.
Er. Anyway, the international press seems willing to take his side. Also, he looks damn goods in those "v-for-victory-or-I-guess-peace-really" poses.

It might also be one of the reasons the Israeli courts are coming down hard on him. Dude, I should just marry him and then fight to get him to the states. At least it would get him out of Israel.
