So Thursday night, [livejournal.com profile] ahn1010 came over and helped me hang some stuff in my bedroom. It looks all girly now.

For my birthday two years ago, Kate and Larry gave me one of those mosquito netting bed canopies. I had mentioned drooling over them, and lamented over how expensive they were. But they found one that wasn't very expensive, picked out a really cool color, and gave it to me. I believe the color on the package called it "curry". Interestingly, that canopy sparked the color and style theme that evolved to where it is now.

This is what my bedroom in the old place looked like after [livejournal.com profile] sleepykins and [livejournal.com profile] tanyad helped me put it together a couple years ago. Clearly, the canopy works best when there is a bed frame to keep it from eating its occupant, but I have found that a few well-placed pillows keep it anchored enough that I don't feel like I'm being digested by mosquito netting.

Ahn also helped me hang two gorgeous lanterns that I have collected from World Market over the last few years. They are that Indian/Middle Eastern style with mirrors and dangly things on the bottom. One is a deep rose, and the other is a burnt sienna kind of color. When they're on, and the only lights in the room, they cast a very interesting hue. They give the room a kind of fantasy feel.

Last night, I took some movies in my room with me, climbed in bed, turned on the rosy light, pulled my canopy closed, and watched Ever After and Much Ado About Nothing. I felt about twelve, but this room theme is making me very happy. I have a duvet that matches the throw that you can see on the bed in the above pictures, and when I clean my room and put the duvet on the bed, my harem/Middle Eastern/Indian bedroom theme will be complete. And then I will take pictures and make you look at them.

And what is that hanging over there on the right?

A Chicago Symphony Orchestra poster that is now in the music room instead of my bedroom :-)

Its a gorgeous poster! I got it almost ten years ago, and my parents framed it for me for Christmas one year. It one of the few pieces of actual art I own- including the paint-by-number piece my grandad did :-P so I'm particularly attached to it. But in the new place, especially with me going wild with the color scheme/theme it works better in the music room- if we ever get the music room together, that is!

The music room sounds like a fun place, and probably more interesting if left messy. Are all of your housemates musical?

Four out of five of us are musical, and the fifth is an avid appreciator :-) but the music room is also kind of my studio- everyone in the house has a studio space, and that's mine. My piano is still at my dad's house, and hopefully we can get it moved over sometime soon. Then we need to get some decorations up, and VOILA! music room!

I love it! It's very pretty and very enchanting. I've always wanted a canopy like that.

Your room looks lovely.

Were the movies any good?

I really enjoy both of them. The Shakespeare is a little hokey in places, but its mostly the production and not the acting that makes it that way. I definitely highly recommend both of those movies :-)

Pretty! I love those mosquito netting things, and your duvet is made out of win. And you've got a kick-ass colour scheme.

I LOVE the colo(u)r scheme I've ended up with! Its totally not me at all, but the hot pink/yellow/orange thing just... ended up... and it totally works. It works even better in my new room, I need to get pictures up.

Very cool. I like the throw, especially.

I wish we had space for a music room. Instead we have a small living room made smaller by piano, organ and the occasional keyboard.

We're so incredibly lucky with this house, its ginormous. The music room specifically is really the sun room, but its just the perfect spot for my teensy spinet piano, a comfy chair, a small table, my music cabinet, and a whole stack of random instruments :-)

Entirely unrelated to the post, just a link I thought you might be interested in as it is essentially talking about living in community from a sustainability & utility perspective: http://www.worldchanging.com/archives/006082.html
