1. Do you live with roommates* right now? If yes, who? Why do (or don't) you have roommates?
I currently have five housemates, three cats, and a fish. We live in Intentional Community. We are officially a Christian community- our name is The Community of the Holy Trinity (the Old Testament trinity, not the whole Creator/Savior/Holy Spirit trinity)- although being a Christian is not a requirement to live here. We hope to grow, as we technically have room for two more members in the house we currently live in (which we LOVE!). My housemates are Katya, Benjamin, Kate, and Larry. The cats are Sweetness, Byron, and Wh. The fish is Gustav.
2. Who was the best roommate you ever had? Why?
I'm REALLY happy with the housemates I've got right now. Also, I had a really, really good time living with
atonal1 in college.
3. Who was the worst roommate you ever had? Why?
Ugh! One year in college I lived with this girl named Erica. She was a nightmare! She'd sleep through class and chat online till 4 or 5 in the morning. She'd give our dorm phone number out to strange men from the internet. After not attending class most of the semester, she'd always bitch that her professors wouldn't give her extensions on term papers or other big projects. She was technically a studio art major, but I think she spent a grand total of four days per semester in the studio. She once invited a guy she met in a chat room to visit her for a weekend, asked me to stay in a friend's room (Libby's, predictably), pushed our beds together, and put a queen-sized sheet over it. Over the winter, I got walking pneumonia, yet she still insisted on smoking in the room. I could go on and on, but I won't.
4. Do you like having roommates? Why or why not?
I love living with people. I don't think I'd function well living alone, even under top circumstances. I wouldn't have survived this long with my medical issues if I hadn't been living in an awesome house like this.
5. Are you a good roommate? Why or why not?
My housemates keep telling me I'm great company, and I'm starting to believe them :-P Right now, I don't have a whole lot to contribute to the household, chore-wise. In general, I'm probably not the greatest roomate in terms of housekeeping, etc., but I have never been kicked out by a roommate :-)
*where roommate means someone who shares your room, house, or apartment with whom you do not have a romantic or familial relationship
The Questioner says: Don't forget your links!
Ed. note: New icon in honor of this line of questioning! From now on, every time I talk about my house I'll use this icon. Which is an icon of an icon! W00t!
