Okay, I'm actually commenting on your lost purse post, because you've disabled comments. I lost my purse a couple years back, which contained among other things a passport and every last stitch of other identification.

It is actually disgustingly easy to get a new State ID. All you need is anything at all official with your name and address on it. Then, with State ID in hand, you can start the passport getting process. You might want to report it stolen to the Office of Homeland Security and/or the police, just in case they want to give you a hard time. Not that they will. Actually, just the police report will do. (Homeland Security is absolutely useless in this regard, which is especially annoying given that tracking stolen passports is one thing that might actually *IMPACT* our security. But whatever). The actual problem is that replacing your passport might cost some money. (Talk to me if you need help with this and I'll help you pay for it -- it shouldn't come out of your food and rent funds!)

Hopefully you still have your Social Security Card elsewhere - I didn't and all this time later they *still* haven't replaced it.

But don't worry. You sound pretty dejected, but this kind of thing just happens.

Thanks for the advice, as usual. SOmetime this week or so I'll go down to the DMV and get a new ID- I keep a copy of my birth certificate around for occasions such as these- but I'll have to figure out what else official has my name on it, I know they can be picky.

I'm not sure the passport thing is all -that- big a deal right now, as its going to be awhile till I'm in the shape to do any travelling anyway. But I really, really appreciate the offer to help replace it.

In hindsight I feel maybe I was oversensitive about it all, but I'm still stinging hard from the feeling of loss upon loss upon loss. Maybe I should get more zen about my life, and then I wouldn't miss the material stuff so much. Dunno.
