siiiiiiiiigggghhhhhhhhhhhhh

So it appears that a week and a half of insomnia is catching up with me. I woke up this afternoon and was certain I'd been hit by a truck. I was seriously considering joining [livejournal.com profile] sixfeetabove and his cronies for Live Band Karaoke this Wednesday cos Addison and Laurie's band is playing. But now I'm thinking that's not going to happen. I am planning on it in two weeks tho.

Yesterday was Felicity's 30th birthday. Yay Felicity!

Worried about [livejournal.com profile] love_alone. Am horribly sorry that your bell was rung by a freaky stranger insistently at 5:40 this morning.

There was a photograph on the front page of yesterday's Daily Herald picturing a soldier reading his Bible, wearing a bandana that says "Kill them all". The words I'm coming up with are "paradox" and "juxtaposition". I'm sure given enough time I can come up with more. It made me sick.

Dad is on spring break this week. That means he is home. All the time. Luckily, Mom is also on spring break, and even luckier, going out of town. That means I think I'll be spending a lot of time over there, bonding with the furries.

I have to drive to Palatine for rehearsal tonight. I sort of don't want to go. But I'm sort of glad I'm going. Lynn isn't going to be there tonight as she's on vacation in Florida, so I am in charge. Woohoo. *makes a circle in the air with finger* I am glad I practiced the scherzo this week. The trombone concerto is dumb (Gordon Jacobs). The horn concerto is boring (Cherubini). The violin Romanze (Dvorak)is ok but kind of bland. Thank God for Mendelssohn!

I typed "Mendelssohn" into a search to make sure I was spelling it right (I was). The only returns that got spit out were wedding postings from newspapers. The only way the Mendellsohn wedding march is being played at my wedding is if it is the full symphonic version, complete and unedited.

Just thought I'd share.

Have you heard the suite in the form it was used in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" movie back in the 1940s or so? Korngold did the orchestration, and it's Mendelssohn with a few small alterations, like the use of extra percussion and brass.

I loaned a friend of mine a recording to use for her wedding, giving her the choice between the straight-up orchestration and the Korngold one, and she picked the Korngold one. Worth hearing, even if for ordinary listening I like the unadulterated original better.

I've heard of it, but I've never had the chance to hear it. I will have to try to pick it up, cos you are now the third person to recommend it to me in about a week. Not generally a Korngold fan, but I will give it a try.
