My iPod froze. What should I do? How serious is this?

**EDIT: Fuck all. Is it contagious? Or should I just not be allowed near technology?!? My phone- my BRAND NEW PHONE- also all of a sudden is not responding. It shows the time, the battery bar (which is full, I charged it last night) and the reception bars on the front of the phone, but when I open it up, it is blank. And when I press the buttons on the side to change the ring style, nothing happens.

TECHNOLOGY HATES ME!**

If your ipod freezes, make sure it's got a lot of battery power (so plug it in to recharge for 30 minutes if it's gone flat) and then press the middle button and the menu button for about 11 seconds, and it will reboot the ipod :)

Good luck!

Oooh... also, try and turn your phone off and then back on again and see if it still sticks. Sometimes mine sticks for a while if I've left it on for a very very very long time (ie, I usually leave my phone on 24/7 so it locks up occasionally) but then, mine is over 2 years old. Anyway, try and turn it off and then on again, otherwise take it back because it's a technical fault and your phone will still be under warranty :D

I had charged it fully last night, so it should be good to go, unless it used all the battery power it had while frozen. Anyway, I'm not too far from an Apple store, so I might have to hit it on the way home today.

Phone: Pull the battery. wait. replace the battery and boot up.
iPod: I don't know anything about freaky Apple hardwares...

Agreed. Pull the battery out of the phone, and keep it out for a good 10 minutes. My Sony Ericsson T610 will freeze every once in a long while, or get into a funny state that turning on and off won't help, and that's the fix.

reboot the ipod. keir's did that and i swear he was about ready to throw it out the window. rebbot. and i will ask him about any other tricks when he wakes up.

as for the hone, echoing the pull out the battery thing. then put back in and reboot. if that doesn't work, back to the shop and have them deal with it.

Fuck.

Again?

Doesn't that planet ever move forward?

from what i understand, it just wobbles back and forth as if it's on a pendulum. two weeks forward, two weeks back, two weeks forward, two weeks back.

it's an optical illusion, mind you. astrology is about movement as it appears to a human looking up, not about how actual movement in the solar system.

I don't know anyone who hasn't had trouble with their ipod, so I'm inclined to say it's not you. My iriver MP3 player has been trouble free for over two years now, however :)

Try thawing the ipod in a microwave, five minutes on a low-power setting (#2 or #3.) That works with most frozen vegetables...

When mine locked up big time, I tried the "iPod issues" steps here. Granted, that didn't help in my particular case, but since my iPod was that far gone, the Apple store just gave me a new one. Good luck. I know what iPod deprivation can be like.

Thanks, that looks good. It appears the battery went ahead and died while it was frozen, so I'll have to wait until I get home and plug it in to try it, but I'll do that tonight. Otherwise I'll have to plan a trip to the Apple store nearby sometime this week.

And yes, iPod deprivation is devastating! I survived on that thing in Tuwani!

Dead batteries are totally weak.

This is random, but your mention of Tuwani brought these two questions to mind. 1) Does CPT work only in the West Bank, or do they work in Gaza, too? 2) What was internet access like in the town(s) you worked in?

1) Right now CPT is in two places in the West Bank- Hebron and Tuwani- and that's it. We had a short project, of about six months, in Gaza a few years ago, but I don't know why CPT left, or what the circumstances were, as it was before my time. We only go where we're specifically invited, and we don't currently have the personnel to cover any other projects in Palestine at this time.

2) You can find internet cafes in any urban center in Palestine. There is no internet access in Tuwani, as neither phone nor electricity lines run there at this time (the electricity they do get, about five hours a night, comes from a diesel generator). The CPT offices in Hebron and Yatta- the city closest to Tuwani, where we rent an apartment that serves as our Tuwani team office- both have internet access, although it is dial-up, and can be spotty. In Jerusalem, where many people spend their time off, one particular internet cafe that caters to CPT has GREAT internet access, including capabilities for things like Skype, and there are tons of other places around.

Cool. Thanks a lot for the info. (Heh - "Yatta." Guess that's only funny if you happen to be familiar with the Yatta video, though. Work questionable - musicians in their underwear in a humorous context.)

iPod it's not a big deal (unless you did my stupid thing) just hit the middle button and the menu button til you see the apple. then you're good to go. happened to me when I was ten feet from an apple store and they did just that. yay.

Yes, that is the fix. Funny how hard that is to find out sometimes, but yeah, I had that happen to me last week. You can also run the battery down completely.

Hold the center and menu bottons down and hard boot the ipod, and if that doesn't work, restore factory settings.

(you know me by another screenname btw)

I believe that everything is more than ok, at least it was yesterday. It may seem ominous that Amy has disappeared from the Internets, but it's actually a testament to how much better she's doing. Now that she can get out of bed with cursing the world, now that she feels safer taking public transportation and playing the viola, she no longer has time to update her livejournal three times a day. Hooray!

Either that or she started friend-locking all her entires, and booted you off her list. (:
