So. I have my first physical therapy appointment tomorrow morning.

At seven fucking a.m.

Oh well, at least I'm getting in! I'm extremely nervous. For starters, I'm hardly a morning person. Plus, I'm coming off of feeling extremely shitty, and I have no idea what to expect. What if I feel awful in the morning? What if I get there and my body rebels, and I puke or pass out or something? What if they do something to me that makes it all hurt worse?

So I'm going to try to go to sleep soon. I'm going to take my sleeping pill at 9, which means it should kick in by 10. My body's dead tired but my brain is working hard, so I hope my brain can shut off and go to sleep so I can get there with a decent night under my belt.

Hold your thumbs for me.

My answers to your questions

A. You won't know until it happens.
B. You don't work there. If you puke, they get to mop it up.
C. Sue.

I had the overactive brain problem in college. The doctor gave me Diazapan for it. I was in a fraternity, so whenever any serious hazing was going down, I'd pop one of those little white pills and and it was smooth sailing...

Speaking as someone who had two or three rounds of physical therapy in his life (one lasting several years):

1) It sucks. It's painful and you're going to hate everyone there.

2) It works.

Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. They have a Chronic Pain Center that is apparently really good.

When done right, PT can help a LOT. And maybe it will help with the being tired and wearing out your brain thing.

(I too understand the power of anti-anxiety Rx (e.g., things ending with 'pam), though. They're good when you need 'em.)

Good luck, taking into account the time difference, you should be going soon. I'll be crossing fingers and toes and pressing thumbs.

Thank you! One of my short-term goals is to be able to play my viola one day a week :-)

I'm so glad your first session went well, it sounds like a really good atmosphere for healing. I hope very much you'll be able to play again soon, it broke my heart to read your recent post about wanting to play. Can you sing? Maybe that would be a healing use of music until you can play again.

I can sing a little bit, but the breathing I'd need to sing properly (I've been a singer all my life, as well, but never as well as I play viola) makes it hurt. I can sing hymns in church (not like I go, but...) for instance, but not like I'd usually sing. Maybe I should go to church more often. I kind of live attached to one.
