It has begun. Officially.

I have a lot of strong opinions on politics, especially current politics. Most of my friends know this. I have some friends who agree with me, and some who don't. I've noticed that we've all done a really good job of respecting each other's positions and not getting into heated debates that could potentially end beautiful friendships, and I'm thankful for that. So out of respect for those who don't agree with me, I've decided to put Amy's Rant du Jour behind an LJ cut. If you know what my feelings are and don't want to be subjected to them, feel free to skim right past this. However, if you 1)know my position and agree with me, 2)don't know my position and are curious, or 3)Know my position, disagree and want to read it anyway, then read onward. But this is MY journal and they are MY feelings, and therefore valid. Don't read it, then get all pissed at me and try to goad me into a huge debate, cuz I'm not gonna bite. :-D

Yeah. So if you haven't noticed yet, the war has begun. I heard someone on the radio this afternoon saying that the US wasn't going to broadcast the exact time they were going to start the war because they didn't want to be "too predictable". TOO FUCKING LATE, BUDDY! I am so angry! I NEVER get angry! Not truly angry, not so pissed off. It makes me feel so helpless- I know I've hardly been the most active "activist" in the last year or so, but I've done what I could when I could, and all for NAUGHT. It was so disheartening to see barely thirty people down at the Federal Plaza tonight. Have we all given up so soon?

THERE IS NO REASON FOR THIS WAR!! The Shrub, our dear appointed pResident is going into this to satisfy his own vengeance complex, urged on by Daddy Shrub. It IS about oil, it IS about a personal vendetta and it IS about globalization and US imperialism. It is NOT about "liberating" the citizens of Iraq, it is NOT about "protecting our freedoms"- if I have to hear that phrase one more time I am going to throw up- it is NOT about seeking out those responsible for 9-11 and it is NOT about WMDs.

There are so many issues here that in my blind rage I cannot address all of them, but I will try to sum up:

Aside from the fact that this war is, in my OH-SO-HUMBLE opinion wrong on so many levels, there are financial issues, issues of race, civil liberties, even ecological reasons. How about taking the billions of dollars it is going to take to run and clean up after this war and funnel it directly into the economy? We'd be buoyed up in a matter of days! How about health care for the uninsured? How about the schools who are getting their funding cut so Dubya can run his war? How about the THOUSANDS, and possibly HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people, US and Iraqi and otherwise, who are going to lose their lives for a war fought over FUCKING NOTHING? What, its not bad enough that we starved them to death for twelve years, but now we're going to bomb them to oblivion "for their own good"? Oh sure, we'll "liberate" you, but you won't be alive to see it.

How about our civil liberties? Call me paranoid, but I'd lay good money down, if I had good money, that it won't be for much longer that the people of America will be able to make such blatant statements of dissent like what I'm making now without experiencing some sort of governmental lashback.
