violachicI find it amusing, somehow, that when I have to deal with an Angry Asshole in one of my communities, I am defended most by someone who has an icon that reads "Fight Racism. Educate a Liberal". And, that we agree a) that the commenter was out of line, and b) how he was out of line.

There was a spirited discussion in a Christian community on LJ here a few days ago about marijuana, and one woman involved is someone I've had run-ins with before; and in this case, we had totally polar views. (She's a zero-tolerance, cannabis is THE DEVIL kind of person: I tend to take a softer view).
She loves Peter Tosh, though, which was a bizarre kind of "OMG, you too??" moment... especially given her anti-pot stance. See, I'd have assumed Tosh and Marley and the rest of their Rasta buddies were also on her shit list.

Date: 2006-07-27 11:20 am (UTC)I apoligise that my post breached the rules of said community, it was merely something on my mind earlier that day that I thought would best be answered (rightly, from replies) on 3faithdialogue. To insinuate it was trying to provoke though, is completely unfounded. I really did want a straight answer with both sides given, which I think I got in some form before it was deleted, but I agree I kind of helped it develop into a debate, but that wasn't the intention. Apoligies again, but please don't take it the wrong way, I understand why the subject is not brought up on the community, thought it is relevent.

From what I understand- and I didn't read through the comments- there were several threads where people got pretty nasty to each other, so the post itself wasn't the only reason to go ahead and delete before everything degenerated in general. I'm thankful, and extremely amused, that people approached me and apologized on their own volition for Not Playing Nice in the comments section.
I'm glad you got a straight answer; I do prefer if you have questions about that in the future you go to a different community. Its not that it isn't important- on the contrary I think the future of the world hinges on it. I just can't do it in my community. We walk on eggshells enough there without adding politics to the mix.
I apologize for accusing you of being intentionally incendiary. I was really annoyed- at that point, I was not yet angry :-)- and I have too often had people who DO come in and intentionally poke at people, and usually its with that kind of question.
I don't believe you're banned from the community, though. If you're interested, you're still welcome to stick around. The fact that you came over here to apologize thoroughly nullifies the warning you got by making a post that got deleted. If that makes any sense....

Date: 2006-07-27 02:06 pm (UTC)And yeh I'm sure there are other places I can ask in the future, but I was looking more at deeper reasons, rather than the Palestine-Israel debate itself. Those that agreed could have said 'yes', and those that didn't, well, provided a detailed answer!
And yeh, I've seen some idiots on here in the last year, but they are in general ignored I think, as they are quite obviously doing it to offend.
And don't worry, it makes sense, heh, thanks for the reply. I'll send you over a copy of the thread I have now...
