I'd just like to pass along a nice link to you all (otherwise known as "all y'all") that was posted by altert blogger [livejournal.com profile] marieoroumania that points to a poor young man who doesn't realize that The Onion is satire.

Read some of the comments, too. I believe there are now over 600.

**EDIT July 25, 2006: The comments have been disabled since on all of his posts. I also will warn you that on this particular post, he has added an extremely graphic photo at the top of the page, presumably of a fetus that was aborted. This was not there before, and has very obviously been added for effect since he knew traffic on the site had soared, and that thousands of potential converts would view this. I need you to know that if you haven't yet clicked this link to read the story, I don't think you should. I will, however, repost the text of it here, behind an LJ cut so if you're curious, and don't want to be subjected to the photo, you can read it.**

Can you face the truth? This is what you all are laughing at. This is what you are responsible for. Go ahead, laugh at abortion if you can. The abortion "choice" means, death to a human being at a rate of over 3,000 every single day. That's like having a 9/11 attack every day. 50 million human beings have been killed by a woman's right to choose. Like I always say, what are you choosing? You're pregnant, you're having a ____. (Ed.note- this paragraph was added with the picture- because he thought we were all mocking abortion- which we weren't, only him. In fact, plenty of the comments were from people who said things like "Dude, I'm pro-life, and I think you're an idiot"

Here are some quotes from a pro-abortion person, Miss Caroline Weber, who wrote an article at The Onion online magazine.

The Onion Article

When referring to the killing of her child she said:

"I am totally psyched for this abortion!"

"Those pro-life activists made it pretty clear that, unlike me, they actually think abortion is bad and to be avoided. Are they nuts? Abortion is the best!"

"It wasn't until now that I was lucky enough to be pregnant with a child I had no means to support."

"I just know it's going to be the best non-anesthetized invasive uterine surgery ever!"

Who does Miss Weber blame her abortion on? The pro-life movement.

"The funny thing is, I actually have the pro-life movement to thank for this opportunity."

It's our fault? She says:

"If my HMO wouldn't have bowed to their pressure not to cover oral contraceptives, I never would've gotten pregnant in the first place."

Sorry ma'am, if you hadn't had sex you wouldn't have gotten pregnant, it's not the HMO's fault for not supporting your promiscuity while not married.

To sum it up, Miss Weber said:

"I realize there are people who will criticize me, calling me selfish and immature because I took "the easy way out." I realize there are those who will condemn me to hell for what I'm about to do. Well, I don't care what they say: It's worth it for all the fun and laughs I'm going to have at the clinic. So listen up, world: I'm pro-abortion... and I love it! See you at my post-abortion party, everybody!"

Miss Weber, you have killed your child, which you admit is a baby/human being, intentionally. That does make you an admitted murderer. I'm not going to "condemn you to hell", I'm going to pray for your forgiveness and for the suffering which you will endure when you realize what you have done. Every baby you see from that moment on is going to wake you up to the realization that you killed your child.

Speak out against abortion. Don't just complain about it. Join the Monthly Call for Life at MonthlyCallForLife.com. We call, email and/or march to let our representatives know that we will not stop until they stop the killing of innocent human beings!

and there's even a mention on Wikipedia about it, both in the article for The Onion and in one specifically for that blog, though that article is marked for possible deletion.

i can't believe anyone is THAT stupid...it must be a parody of a parody, right? No one's that clueless?? They would have looked at other articles or seen other headlines when they read that article, right? And realized it had to be fake, right? They're not that stupid, right? No one can be that stupid and still use a computer, right? Right???

i'm going to bang my head against some bricks and look at the pretty stars now.

Was almost 1000 when I looked. Am told he tries to defend himself, but am too busy here to keep looking to find it.

Unfortunately, he's not the only person who doesn't realize The Onion is satire...

Yes, several people in comments I read referred to that.

I love it, at the end of the snopes article, it says If The Onion's parody has demonstrated anything, it's that we should be worrying about adults not being able to distinguish between fiction and reality. The kids themselves seem to have a pretty good grasp of it..

And isn't that so sadly often the case...?

Oh, and the defense of one's self starts <a href='http://marchtogether.blogspot.com/2006/07/satire.html">here</a>, although if you are interested, go ahead and take a look at every blog entry since. He can't escape this, keeps trying to defend himself, and finally uses the opportunity to slam the "intellectual left", as he puts it. He even tries to make it a free speech issue, which, for all the slamming he got, no one ever told him he wasn't allowed to say these things. Too stupid to talk, maybe, but never "you're not allowed". Heh. Anyway. That's that.

I'm always late to these things, but the comments seem to be gone, and he's made several subsequent posts saying how he knew it was "satire" all along, but really, it's not as satirical as we all think.

Yyyyeahhhh.

Also, take care of yourself.
