I don't have the energy to make a 4th of July rant this year, so I'm linking you to a couple posts people did make that I find reflect much of my sentiments.

I was at the concert at grant park, but they ruined it with military claptrap. Also, helicopters kept flying overhead and disturbed the music...

It seemed very low key compared to my memories of 7-4 in the past. I feel this is a reaction to the people being betrayed by the government.
