I decided I finally had to leave the [livejournal.com profile] chicago_el community. There are a few cool things that come out of it, but in general, it seems to be a bunch of twenty somethings trying to out-urban each other.

The post that forced my decision?

"The guy sitting next to me today on the el was shouting across the way to his friend and he actually said "foshizzle" with a straight face. Like he wasn't joking, like it was a part of his everyday vocabulary."

Like, OMG, people actually talk like that? WTF?!??!!!!11

If you're dropping from the foshizzle, I respect that. If you're dropping from the likes, then I worry a bit. In this example at least, 'like' is a perfectly acceptable word, using it to mean "as though" in both instances. The punctuation is a bit off for this theory, but dangling participles are sadly common in this day and age.

Sweetheart....

I woke up about 10=ish again. Eh, dropping like that is normal. Don't be too worried, or at least any more worried than otherwise :-)

Don't you ever find yourself examining their user icon photos, just to make sure if you get on an el car with one of them you have the chance to move?

I like your community. Its the inhabitants that irritate me. Not entirely unlike the phrase "God, save me from your followers!"

everything from foshizzle to like to OMG.

Then again, though, some of my friends and I say "wtf" and other net-isms IRL occasionally....

and "snakes on a plane" has become a somewhat frequent substitute for other, less benign forms of cursing.

{is thinking "foshizzle" is actually an improvement on most of what one generally hears on the Red Line and is confused at the OP's delicacy...}

Don't forget the class issues. Most of the readership of [livejournal.com profile] chicago_el rides the CTA so they don't have to drive their car into the loop and park it there. Most of the ridership of the El rides the CTA because that is their option: Ride the El or don't get there. So when the 20-something start complaining about the people who bring their *gasp* kids and strollers! on the El, or how unkempt and poorly groomed some of the riders are, I start to feel al little sick.

An old friend of mine almost dated that girl who left the comment in question. She's slutty. Just thought I'd throw that in there.
