I was really quite surprised when, doing a web search for Amish, that not only was there a web site, there were lots of web sites. Anyone else find that at least interesting, if not a little funny?
But note that very few of them are actually made BY the Amish. At least not boy Amish who have joined the church. Prior to that, they can do whatever they want and usually do.
Myself, I think it's charming the way my Anabaptist bretheren make computers out of hay and mud. I went to an Amish computer-raising once. It was breathtaking.
I wish I had an appropriate, off-the-top-of-my-head response to that. I'll have to sleep on it. Meanwhile, I'll go to sleep with pictures of computer-raisings in my head. This should make good dream fodder.....
I had a freind who moved to Lancaster PA, and she said, "Its x amount of miles outside of Philadelphia...." turns out, Lancaster PA is the heart of Amish country!
though I do doubt the website was made by the Amish. They do make good cheese and applebutter.
I'm sure that none of the websites were made by the Amish- they all seem to be the tourist-trappy type of things. You know, "come eat our food and buy our quilts" sort of thing. Its just one of those wonderful ironies of life.... They do make good applebutter, although I can't say I've ever had any Amish cheese.
