Apparently some publishers have taken it upon themselves to renumber the books so they're in chronological order. Because they think it will confuse the kids otherwise.

actually, lewis himself recommend that they be read in chronological order.

well, I'm far more put off by the fact that the publishers think that it would confused kids too much, than by the re-arranging of the order. But I wasn't aware of that.

you can be a purist. i think there are things to be said for both... his writing and theology clearly develop further as the books go on, but he is the author. =)

Doesn't seem right somehow. (I'm a purist, too, and was horrified to discover the renumbering of the books in recent editions.) Do you know if Lewis gave a reason, or in what context he said that? Did he write the books in a different order than they were published, perhaps?
