So after following a bunch of links, I ended up on IMDB, and was interested to learn that apparently Abbie Hoffman had a small role in the movie Born on the Fourth of July, which is a movie I should have seen years ago.

Apparently he played a strike organizer.

Must have been a stretch for him.....

and my high school band was in that movie too, because the colors of their uniforms were what the costume designer wanted for a parade scene. Never actually saw it, though.
