An Unorthodox Resume
Jan. 23rd, 2006 04:10 pmGifts I know I have:
- Music- understanding, performing, listening; learning and playing by ear; teaching; putting into historical and social context, and understanding significance of
- Working with kids, in general- teaching skills, but also potential "good mom" skills" (or "good auntie" skills)
- Teaching, in general- music, but also retaining the skill set to impart knowledge I have on any topic to another person or persons
- Customer service- leftover from retail days, and imperative for my current position in the CPT office
- Caring for people, in general- I can't organize my own life, but I'd be happy to organize yours
- Basic People Skills- different from Customer Service skills, tapped in the past mostly for dealing with student's parents, etc; understanding of someone else's perspective that often facilitates communication between people
- Flexibility- vague, but important; ability go to with the flow in life can be crucial
- Patience (with everyone but myself)
Gifts I suspect, but need to explore:
- Writing- I'm articulate, imaginative, have a relatively large vocabulary, and knowledge of grammar and mechanics, but never been able to make that form into anything beyond "pretty good" writing.
- Photography- I've been told I "have an eye", but haven't yet had the time or the proper equipment to do much beyond sheer basics
- Call to some kind of ministry- worked with youth (see above list) and kids, and even given a few meditations (can't really quite call them sermons) that went well, but been strongly resisting this call because I can't seem to agree with God on a few things
- Artistic arrangement/aesthetics- thinking mainly here about how much I used to get a kick out of merchandising a store and dressing display windows
Known weaknesses
- All things financial- no need to expound further than the fact that it gives me headaches like crazy
- Anything involving numbers or math that doesn't fit into the above category
- Learning in traditional classroom settings- hated school, or at least was always bored by it and the games other students inevitably played
- Linear organizational skills- I'm great at categorizing, and thinking outside the box, but for some reason I have problems with simply making lists, prioritizing the lists, and completing them
- Need variety and movement- an office job is really not for me, although the current office job I have is okay because of the nature of the work; Cannot do repetetive tasks without going smack out of my head
- Not good at asking for help- resent anyone in any kind of authority position "checking up" on me or watching over my shoulder
Okay. Not many marketable skills, and too many weaknesses.
Where does this leave me?
