I think I got my email client thing to work. I did indeed get the proper instructions, and Thunderbird is busy downloading all my email from webmail. Except due to the fact that I have dial-up and not DSL or something, it is taking F-O-R-E-V-E-R. I have over 1300 messages (the bulk of which are LJ comments, I'm amused to note), and its barely at 300 after over 10 minutes. Hopefully once they're all downloaded it will all be easier to deal with in the long run. Then when I go back to work I'll have to figure out how to transfer stuff to my work computer. But that is not for me to worry about right now.

I got a latch-hook kit, because I've completely failed at knitting and crocheting so far. I think with some patience and practice I could crochet, but I'm not in that mindset right now. I latch-hooked merrily as a child, but for some reason when I opened this kit, I completely blanked. And due to the drugs, I couldn't concentrate enough on the directions to make it work. Luckily, I had a particularly mechanical-minded visitor last night who- despite the fact he has never latch-hooked in his life- read the directions, did it, and then proceed to give me very slow and detailed directions. And in a few weeks, I will have my throw pillow of Eeyore to put on my bed.

I'm starting to think its the combination of the Neurontin and the Norco that make me zombiefied. The neurontin itself doesn't seem to make me all that out of it, and the norco never used to. But now when I take the pain medication, I'm so stupified its crazy. Or vastly amusing, if you're [livejournal.com profile] polyfrog. So that's my theory- that the neurontin augments the norco somehow. I guess it doesn't matter. Either way, I'm out of it- but yet not out of pain. Bah.

In an effort to not end this post on a negative note, I'm going to take this opportunity to tell you all that Dannon La Creme yogurt is really, really yummy.

I don't talk much about my faith issues here, usually except for how the relate to something else. I guess this doesn't really qualify as "talking about my faith", but its close. I really like Sojourners magazine. Its as close as I've found to my personal beliefs as a self-identifying Progressive Christian. I regularly get email updates from them, that contain interesting tidbits and short articles. This interview came in today's issue, and I really liked the guys answers. Much to possible chagrin of some of you, I do plan on talking about The Da Vinci Code at some point in the near future. But in the meantime, if you're interested... read below.

With The Da Vinci Code poised to go from bestseller list to the big screen on May 19, pastor and writer (and Sojourners board member) Brian McLaren talks about why he thinks there's truth in the controversial book's fiction.

What do you think the popularity of The Da Vinci Code reveals about pop culture attitudes toward Christianity and the church?

Brian McLaren: I think a lot of people have read the book, not just as a popular page-turner but also as an experience in shared frustration with status-quo, male-dominated, power-oriented, cover-up-prone organized Christian religion. We need to ask ourselves why the vision of Jesus hinted at in Dan Brown's book is more interesting, attractive, and intriguing to these people than the standard vision of Jesus they hear about in church. Why would so many people be disappointed to find that Brown's version of Jesus has been largely discredited as fanciful and inaccurate, leaving only the church's conventional version? Is it possible that, even though Brown's fictional version misleads in many ways, it at least serves to open up the possibility that the church's conventional version of Jesus may not do him justice?
