I played in Palatine tonight. And it didn't rain! WOOHOO!!!!! I was very pleased to finally find out what the outdoor amphitheater looked like at that venue. Its very pretty. It also has really good acoustics, which could be good, but since I was sitting next to the percussion, it wasn't so good. So this year's Pops Mini-Season comes to an end. At least until the first weekend in December. And even though the music was kinda lame this year, I enjoyed it as always. I'm finally really getting to know other players- which is about time, considering I've played with them now for two years on and off. Sometimes shyness can be the biggest curse in my life.

I reread last years post about this concert. Its interesting to see what has happened in the last year. Remember when Ben said "I'll take Sergei till you can find him a permanent home"? BWHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! Joke's on you, Ben! You have a cat now. A cat that I know you *gasp* really love. And I know he's in a good home :)

Okay. Goodnight. It has been an interesting day. As usual.

Tonight my friend's page seems determined to be royal blue. Even though it is set at a light gray-blue, same as my journal page. Hmmm.... mutiny?

Q:What instrument do violists envy most?
A:The harp. You only ever have to play pizzicato on open strings.

Q:What's another name for viola auditions?
A:Scratch lottery.

Q:What is the difference between a violist and a prostitute?
A1:A prostitute knows more than two positions.
A2:Prostitutes have a better sense of rhythm.

Q:What is the similarity between a violist and a prostitute?
A:Both are paid to fake climaxes.

Q:How do you get a dozen violists to play in tune?
A1:Shoot 11 of them.
A2:Shoot all of them.
A3:Who the hell wants a dozen violists?

Q:What's the latest crime wave in New York City?
A:Drive-by viola recitals.

If I'm going to set out to actually be a musician (in the hopes of escaping the retail world forever), there are several things that must be done when I get my Pops money next week:

1)Renew my AFM union dues
2)Rehair my good bow
3)New strings all 'round
4)Reprint business cards with current phone number

Union dues quite possibly will kill me. Remains to be seen. Interesting how, for a group that constantly struggles for members, their dues are absolutely astronomical. Luckily, since I was a member several years ago, I don't think I'll have to pay the initiation fees again. *crosses fingers*

When I was a kid, my mother used to tell me I had an expensive hobby. I guess moms are right sometimes.

This one is for [livejournal.com profile] love_alone, as per our conversation via IM earlier in the week.

Someone on my friends list today posted a link to the Gender Genie. It is supposed to be able to analyze what you write, and tell if the author is male or female. It is apparently based on some kind of algorithm. I tried it quite a few times, and even though I would put in what I thought was a balanced cross-section of male and females (yes, I experimented by cutting and pasting my friends LJ entries :P), it almost always told me the author was female. Now, you manly men, don't get offended here. I noticed something, and I came up with a theory.

I noticed: After it computes your gender, it asks if it was right or wrong. It says that it is supposed to be right 80% of the time. However, the little graph that comes up says that the website has only been right 45%, and has been wrong 55%. This tells me that perhaps the algorithm doesn't work the way it was intended.

Theory: That what the algorithm is measuring has nothing to do with how males or females talk/write, but if they use more of a passive/active voice, or even how articulate they are. It was kind of interesting to read how the algorithm is supposed to work, but I think their basis is way off.

I'd be interested to see this algorithm either substantiated, or totally blown out of the water. Any takers?

Libs- When you get home tomorrow, call me? We have much to discuss about the next week. I am making pro and con lists.

If you were a bird, what color egg would you lay?

If you were a frog, would you jump around on lilly pads a lot, or would you sit still and stare into space?

If you could be any lizard in the world, what kind of lizard would you be?

If you had the choice, would you be a penguin, a walrus, or a sea lion?
