Dec. 22nd, 2003 11:48 pmSo I guess its not a really big secret that I'm not exceptionally "girly". I mean, I was a huge tomboy growing up, and I've never really settled into a stereotypical "girly" routine. I don't really "get" stuff like clothes and makeup and shoes and hair. Sure, I am fairly fastidious about my personal hygiene, and I like to think that I have at least a modicum of good taste- meaning, I don't go for anything either particularly grungy or particularly flashy. But I always felt kind of out of place at those sleepovers when I was younger where we always did each others hair and gave each other makeovers. I guess it was entertaining, but I never really put a lot of stock in it. So it was really surprising to me how cool it felt yesterday (Sunday), when
love_alone dragged me into a fitting room at Carson Pirie Scott and made me try on a ball gown.
And let me tell you, we were princesses for fifteen minutes!
I was there to innocently return a gift that wasn't quite right, but we had to stand in line next to racks and racks of gorgeous gowns (or "frocks", as was put so eloquently by
polyfrog) for quite some time before I was able to make my transaction. As we were ready to leave, she looked at me with a kind of borderline maniacal look in her eye and said "I really need to try on this dress". I asked why. She said "For the hell of it", or something of a reasonable facsimile. It was, indeed, a gorgeous dress. When we got into the fitting room, lo and behold, there just happened to be another dress sitting in there, of my size. She kind of thrust it at me and said "here, put this on".
I thought she was nuts.
But I put it on.
Oh, heaven!
We were both shocked at how small the numbers were on the price tag, considering what kind of "frocks" they were, but still could not 1)come up with the money, or 2)justify the spending of such money, for these amazing dresses. We both emerged from our dressing rooms, gawked at ourselves, and gawked at each other- it was a complete transformation! Who would have thought the two of us bohemian-dirty-hippie types (although I assert that we're both very clean hippies) could clean up so well?
Wearing this dress for less than ten minutes even made me reasses my views on wearing a non-traditonal dress if I ever get around to getting married.
So for the rest of the afternoon, we were quite in love with ourselves.
And here is our diabolical plan (don't hold your breath- we're not...):
1)find two very nice, eligible bachelors
2)get them to fall in love with us
3)get them to buy us our dresses
4)get them to take us out somewhere on New Year's Eve suitable for said dresses
5)enjoy!
Ah yes, a girl's gotta dream, right? Especially since the wearing of this kind of frock would certainly necessitate the purchase of suitable lingerie to go underneath them......

Me, I genreally dress like a communist dictator. I wear the same monochomatic ensombles as Fidel Castro, Mao, and the korean dictator.

And the day I think I'm in serious danger of actually hurting you is the day I don't slug you anymore. :-P
