Wanted:

A Jewish co-moderator of my new community, [livejournal.com profile] 3faithdialogue. I am looking for perspective from all three religions involved- Judaism, Christianity and Islam- and have already filled the other two positions. One being... uh... myself :-)

Job description:

To be a member and monitor of the community. To keep an eye out for offensive material, and be prepared to answer questions or debunk a myth or stereotype. To provide perspective from the Jewish point of view, religiously, socially and culturally.

Qualifications:

Jewish, religiously and/or culturally (as in, doens't have to be currently practicing). Open-mindedness and ability to see from another's point of view are mandatory. Must be able to use objectivity as much as possible when discussion of controversial issues is at hand.

If you are interested, or know someone who is, please let me know. I haven't really launched the community yet, I'd like to see if I can get a third moderator before I do. Thanks!

Are you saying that those are the only 3 relevant religions?

No way....far from...... but considering current events, they're in the limelight... I would be interested in seeing, say, a Hindu-Muslim dialogue community as well, but I'm hardly qualified from either point of view.

I'd be interested in seeing a community focused on discussing and debating the various viewpoints of current events across ALL religions no matter how major the religion is.

But since religious discussion tends to breed hate, anger, and intolerance, I know that would never happen in the way that it should. Most people can't even handle a normal debate without turning it into personal attacks, and factless arguments.

Well, I'm a little aprehensive about starting this community, but I have two people who are co-moderating it with me, and I hope between the three of us we can keep it under control. There are actually communities for religions of all sorts, but I haven't yet seen a community like what I created, which is why I created it. I'm a member of both Jewish and Muslim communities, and I wanted to see what would happen if we got them together. It may be a total bust, but then again, it may turn out good.

well, I certainly wish you the best of luck. While I stand behind what i said, my commentary was in no way meant to be disparaging. :)

I look forward to seeing what this community has in store. On a related side note, you should read this.

That's a wonderful article, thanks! I am also interested in seeing what this community has in store... I'm also slightly aprehensive. Such dialogue does not have an overwhelming success rate. Can't hurt to try, though, eh? Will you join?

I'm very interested, and will prolly watch. We atheists are pretty good at sitting back and being quiet in places where the word God gets thrown around.

Fear not about previous success rates for such communities. Sure, maybe they haven't the best track record, and it may not change the world, but perhaps people can learn things they didn't know, and that's an accomplishment any day.

Sometimes those most removed from a situation are the ones who can most see the flaws in the logic of arguments. I'd definitely welcome outside input.
