So last night when I walked in the house, the dishwasher was sitting in the middle of the kitchen, yawning dishes at me. So I went to ask my dad if the dishwasher was clean and needed emptying, or if the dishwasher had dirty dishes and needed to be started. My brain-to-mouth connection wasn't working- as it seems to be working less and less these days- so the only thing I could actually manage to get out was "is it a waxing dishwasher or a waning dishwasher?"

The scariest thing? He understood exactly what I meant, and in a word, replied "waxing".

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke up in the middle of the night with the munchies. Its a good thing I don't keep munchie food in the house, because otherwise I'd actually eat it when I got the munchies. This time, I had such a case of the munchies that I scoured the kitchen trying to come up with something to chew on. The only thing I could come up with was pancakes. Except it seemed like an awful lot of work to make pancakes for one person at four in the morning. And I don't like to eat pancakes alone. So I abstained.
Until now. Now I'm eating pancakes. Because it made more sense to make pancakes in the daytime, even though I'm still eating them alone. And I was hungrier. I like powdered sugar on my pancakes instead of syrup.
It would be nice if 1)I had my own place, 2)I lived in or closer to the city, and 3)I had lots of friends who were night people, like I am. Then, when I woke up in the middle of the night craving pancakes, all I'd have to do is call some people and say "hey, wanna come over and eat pancakes?", and they'd come over and we'd eat pancakes. And you'd be invited. But I wouldn't call you if I knew you weren't a night person. And you might have to bring your own syrup. We seem to be out.
:) I would have gotten the waxing/waning reference.
I would probably have come over for pancakes in the middle of the night, too, but it's kind of a long haul from where I am now.
Hrmmm... you know, I haven't had pancakes in a while, but I guess not. There must be a alternative mix out there somewhere ... or maybe they could be made from scratch using rice milk and an egg substitute?
I haven't read the ingredients on my mix.... I'm sure there is powdered milk in there.... hrm...... well, when you come over for pancakes I'll make sure they're vegan :)
Posts like this let me know for certain that even if you were not related to me and even if you did not live three blocks away and even if we didn't share a car, friends, parents, and siblings I would still find you incredibly amusing and "my kind of person".
It doesn't make you worry about me? I mean, I reread stuff like this, and I worry about myself....
No, I worry about you when you are acting "normal".
This is why you harbor friends in different time zones. In College, I had people spread ove 14 timezones, most of whom were knolegable about a wide variety of subjects.
Me- "12:00, need help with Polli Sci... Call Alaska, whre it is 9:00.."
Later, Me- "it is 3:00 AM, need help with Polli Sci... Email Brussles, where it is 10:00 AM...
It took a world wide network of friends to get me to graduate.
Hey, aren't you in the midst of a jaunt across a bunch more time zones? On what leg of your journey are you?
Dood, you're in my time zone!
There is a finite numeber of time zones in the world, and a smaller number still in the country. It is right that we should share one once and awhile...
Waxing or waning dishwasher.
I of course understand what you meant, but if posed with that question I'd be un-confident that we had the same definition of which was which.
Waxing, getting fuller and fuller of dirty dishes?
Or waning, getting more and more dark (more dirty dishes)?
Ha! And I thought I think too hard! ;-) Waxing, getting more and more full.
I'm usually a late-night person you can safely call until midnight or so. If you get a busy signal, send email or try again later.
I love braniac things like a waxing and waning dishwasher! I think you'll fit right in in my family, the Wilson part anyway. Right now I'm proud the son is learning about the waxing and waning moon. Did you see either of the lunar eclipses?
I didn't! It was too cloudy where I was.
