Sep. 16th, 2003 12:07 amThere are these two employees at my local Borders. Or at least there were last time I was hanging out there with any regularity, which was when I had money, which wasn't particularly recently.
Anyway.
They're really cool people. They would bend over totally backwards for me to get me what I needed. Eddie once spent an hour and a half tracking down a song for me. Not a CD, but a song. And Josh was always looking out for books he knew I'd be interested in. Actually, it was funny- once I realized my money was draining more quickly than it was coming in, Josh but an ordering ban on me. He told me he wasn't ordering anything else for me until I had a net worth. I still don't have a net worth. But that's not the point.
I love those guys, and I trust them. They picked up on my taste almost immediatly, and were great for finding me CDs and books and movies and everything. I trusted them
Except I now have a bone to pick with them.
I had heard someone at an open mic night do a Rusted Root song. Unbelieveably enough, I had never heard of Rusted Root (yes, I had a sheltered childhood). I really liked it. So I went back to Borders and asked Josh and Eddie about them. They said, and I quote, Rusted Root is a "pre-Dave Matthews Band, Dave Matthews Band". So I didn't worry too much about that, because 1)I can't stand Dave Matthews Band, and 2)I couldn't afford to buy a CD anyway.
But now I realize something.
I REALLY LIKE RUSTED ROOT!
I'm gonna have to go kick some Borders heinie.

Date: 2003-09-16 07:12 am (UTC)whatever. TOTALLY nothing like dave matthews, IMO. they rock. i saw them in concert back in late 97 or early 98...i can't remember. i was shrooming, and high, everyone was dancing, the music filled up the entire auditorium, the drums were pounding in my soul...it was amazing. definitely an experience to remember.

Date: 2003-09-16 09:10 am (UTC)As for Rusted Root rocking live, I have never seen them, but I have known people high on shrooms who thought nails on a chalkboard was a rock spectacle like no other. I mean no offense, but see them sober and get back to me on that.

Date: 2003-09-16 10:36 am (UTC)as for rusted root rocking live, the entire auditorium was going nuts and full of energy, so it's not just me. as i said, EVERYONE was up moving, dancing, even though it was auditorium seating. i'd say that's a pretty good thermometer of how incredible their performance was. i didn't need to be sober to know it was an incredible show. and no offense, but one person's experience on hallucinogens can and will be vastly different from another's, depending on how much they take/their body chemistry/their tolerance. Simply because you've known people to be blitzed out of their minds on shrooms and out of touch with reality does not mean that everyone gets the same way. and i was certainly not blitzed out of *my* mind that night.
