Once in a blue moon I get an IM from Poptart.

*double checks the color of the moon*

His IMs are just as aleatoric as the rest of his universe, and even though we usually only exchange a few lines, it has the tendency to leave me in stitches.

Gotta love the Tart.....

Then poptart is off his schedule. We'll have to have words.

That, of course, depends on which definition of "blue moon" one choses to use.

A volcanic eruption spreads dust into the high atmosphere, giving us a view of a very, very blue moon as the light is filtered through the dust.

Such an occurrence tends to be sufficiently unpredictable as to allow for our friend's appearance.

(Yo, violachick, if you want to claim supreme title as a word geek, you have some stiff competition....)

Dood. I already got a triple word score for "aleatoric".

Well, there is some support for that definition; but the overwhelming preponderance of references is for either the 2nd full moon in a calendar month (about every 30 months on average) or the third full moon in a season (less often, depends on your definition of "season.")

You know you're a music geek when:

Music terminology spills over into your everyday conversation.

what does aleatoric mean?

Aleatoric music is a twentieth-century composition technique where the composer basically picks one note after another that would be the least likely to follow. Its also known as "chance music". I've decided that Poptart is the most aleatoric person I've ever met, because it seems like everything he does is so incredibly unpredictable, and even relies on chance.
