The song For What Its Worth by Buffalo Springfield has been one of my favorite songs for years. It came to have even more significance as I started doing the whole anti-war, social justice stuff. The other day [livejournal.com profile] ojdorson was telling me about a Public Enemy song that samples the original song. So I just downloaded it and listened to it. Like ten times in a row.

Dood.

Wow.

Dood.

I don't tend to gravitate towards rap, but I don't dislike it either. This is making me want to investigate more. Yeah, I'm really impressed... and I'm such a geek that if someone were to ask me what I like about it I'd have to say "the stunning social commentary".

Public Enemy is all about that, though. Chuck D ain't an NYU grad for his good looks. The whole He Got Game soundtrack is full of good stuff. "Politics of the Sneaker Pimps" is another great one. Did you, by any chance, see the movie? It comes highly recommended by Lockett, for what it's worth....

I didn't, but I'll put it on my list for sure. When I have a few bucks I'm thinking of making a field trip to Facets. In the meantime I'll continue to illegally download the soundtrack.
