There's a song I've heard passing on the radio lately that had lyrics I really, really liked. So I haven't exactly been obsessed with it, but I've been curious to know who its by. The other day, someone told me it was by Vanessa Carleton, who I have vaguely heard of, but I don't know anything about. After an extensive online search this evening, I found out something moderately disturbing about this song.

Don't look at me Every day is so wonderful
And suddenly, it's hard to breathe
Now and then, I get insecure
From all the fame, I'm so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down
So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends, you're delirious
So consumed in all your doom
Trying hard to fill the emptiness
The piece is gone and the puzzle undone
That's the way it is

You are beautiful no matter what they say
Words won't bring you down
You are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words won't bring you down
Don't you bring me down today...

No matter what we do
(no matter what we do)
No matter what they say
(no matter what they say)
When the sun is shining through
Then the clouds won't stay
And everywhere we go
(everywhere we go)
The sun won't always shine
(sun won't always shine)
But tomorrow will find a way
All the other times

We are beautiful no matter what they say
Yes, words won't bring us down
We are beautiful no matter what they say
Yes, words can't bring us down
Don't you bring me down today

Don't you bring me down today
Don't you bring me down today

I must now go give myself a lobotomy with a Q-tip, because it turns out this song is by Christina Aguilera.

Is it a re-mix or something? How would I go about finding it to download illegally?

I guess it's a remix in a sense. Cut-ups, also known as bootlegs and mashups, are where a DJ takes the lyrics of one song and the music from another song and mixes them together thereby creating a whole new song with no original content whatsoever. The creativity comes solely from the DJ's mixing skills. I can't remember where I downloaded the Christina cut-up, but www.base58.com has loads of cut-ups to download, though they have been moving toward straight remixes. Industry lawsuits tend to do that to you. You could also try www.4trak.net/dsico. Dsico is one of my favorite cut-up artists, along with Freelance Hellraiser and McSleazy.

Happy to help. I've developed a whole new appreciation for Top 40 music because of cut-ups. They usually enhance the originals and make them a bit more interesting.
