Okay. So. [livejournal.com profile] pheret1 already makes fun of me when I get excited about gas prices dropping. But I'm not going to let that thwart my compulsion to come on LiveJournal and wax rhapsodic about shopping at Aldi.

I got enough food for at least a weeks worth of lunches and dinners, plus some snacks and a treat for $25. I'm never shopping elsewhere again. I'm not sure if it was the 33-cent deli meat, or the 89-cent frozen dinners, but frankly, I'm hooked.

There is nothing wrong with shopping cheap or getting excited when gas prices go down. Anyone who pays full price for food, clothes, sex, whatever is an idiot.

but then everyone always pays the price for sex so we're all idiots.

To clarify: I don't get excited when gas prices drop becuase I'm going to buy gas anyway... Sure, I like to look for the cheaper stations, but it's not like I'm going to change my purchasing because of the changes in price. I'll still buy gas if I'm going somewhere...

Aldi, however... RULES!

They had a circular saw for $39 buck last month that I really got excited over.

I like heavy machinery...

i thought about buying a tv there back when i thought maybe i should have a tv that was larger than 13" in my bedroom. but so far the 13" one is doing it, for the amount of tv i'm watching.

i need to find an Aldi near my house.

Native Guide to the rescue!

Well, there's one across the street from Lutz's. I expect that the one on California (I think) south of Devon might be closest. Then again, I know some people go to the one on Oakton in Skokie (just west of the L tracks) and shop at the big fruit market next door, too.

thanks NG!

We're so poor this month, I "shopped" in my mother-in-law's pantry. Aldi is a little less humbling I think.

Aldi's??

was it, perchance, frozen deli meat??

I worry about Aldi......and I hope you dont get sick......but maybe that's cause I've only ever been to the one in Jacksonville, and it's GROSS!!!!!

Congrats on successful budgetary finesse!

You might also check out Trader Joe's. They never have things on sale and carry only certain things, so their prices are pretty low. Their house-brand food is often organic, and some things are cheaper every day than even when on sale at Jewel. (Example: Hebrew National hot dogs: On sale for $3.99 at Jewel, while normall under $3 at TJ's.)
