Yesterday was a really weird day.

It didn't start weird. But it ended up weird.

I woke up. That wasn't so weird, I do that pretty much every day. I took my sister to work, and went to do some teaching. Again, not so weird (one of my mini-violists just came back from Blue Lake, and it was really cool to see how much her playing matured in only two weeks. Yay!).

But then things started going a bit awry. [livejournal.com profile] pheret1 and I decided that we'd go to the LiveJournal Meetup in Chicago. We decided to to train and el it. We decided if we dug up enough change and packed a dinner, we'd be able to afford said train and el tickets. Yay!

Okay, so nothing too weird yet. Except that I remembered I told [livejournal.com profile] bethypooh95 that I'd pick her up about 5:00 to come over and spend the rest of the week at the house with me. Oops. Call Beth, tell her I'll pick her up later.

Then the weird stuff starts happening. Actually, it wasn't so much weird as just frustrating and kind of gross. Five minutes before I was to leave the house, my toilet starts clogging up. So I poke at it a little bit. I take the sand-filled milk carton out of the tank. Unfortunately, this only makes the toilet overflow. A lot. Eep. Can't find the plunger, and we lent the snake out to someone. Eep eep. In panic, I grab my good towels and throw them all over the floor. I look at the clock. I'm twenty minutes late! Eep eep eep! I close the bathroom door and run. But not before I call Beth and ask if, when I pick her up later, if I can borrow a plunger. She says no problem.

I pick my sis up from work. We make the train, no problem. I have previously packed a dinner in my backpack and we eat enroute. We made it to the meetup and met lots and lots of really cool people, several of whom are recent additions to my friends list. There was a kind person who gave me a lift to the train station, for which I was truly grateful. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] love_alone for drawing a hexagram on my ankle. No, I did not burst into flames as I crossed the border into Wheaton.

On the metra on the way home, I was just settling into the seat with my discman (U2) and a snack (leftover noodle soup) for a nice, quiet ride home, when someone sits down in front of me. It happens to be one of the few people I know from high school that I actually enjoy running into. We chatted the whole ride home, I gave her a lift to her apartment, and we finally exchanged phone numbers so we can get together, hang out and drink (hey Marta, she knows Andre! He's moving to Glasgow next week!). So that was weird. Very weird.

So then I picked up Beth and the plunger and went home and fixed the toilet and washed the towels and gave Beth a LiveJournal tutorial, which I'm not sure she wanted and then we went to sleep and then woke up and had breakfast and now we're going to clean the house.

Okay, so the day wasn't so weird. But it was out of the ordinary. I went to bed thinking "this certainly is not the kind of day I usually have".

Hopefully meeting new people will kick me in the ass to being more social.

We'll see.

Hey there. I'm sorry I left so early last night, but I barely made it out to Target to get the wedding stuff. I'm glad to finally have met you (and your rapid-transit sister)!

I would hope so. We could drag him down to a bar with good beer--oh, wait! We could go to Delilah's in Chicago, and then walk to the storefront that has both the Lakeview Mennonite Church and a gay leather store inside it.

I think that sounds like a good plan. Go to church, buy some leather, hit the leather bars.
