Almost three years ago, I posted this entry. The coat involved in this discussion had been purchased three or four years previous to that.

But I've been fighting this coat battle with my mom for years. I wish I didn't have to, but as everybody knows, good winter coats are damned expensive, and its hard to get one without some help, sometimes.

This year, I asked if, for my Christmas present, she would help me buy a parka. A good parka. A good parka that I picked out. After listening to my arguments on why I wanted this particular one, she said she would.

And I about fell off my chair.

After seven years, I WON THE COAT BATTLE! It took a long time, a lot of persuasion, and a whole bunch of determination, but I WON!

I can not tell you how excited this makes me. You, in turn, probably can not tell me how much of a dork it makes me that I'm this excited over this. But hey, we're even.

The funny thing about that coat? The way it ended. About a month after I made the above post, I had a speaking engagement about CPT and Palestine at a church in Rogers Park. It was warm that day, and I had a lot to carry, so when I left, I accidentally had left my coat behind. I went back to attend church a couple weeks later, and asked about the missing coat. I was told that the church secretary would be the one to talk to, and she wasn't there that day. I called the next day and left a message. I didn't hear back. Then the shit hit the fan at CPT, I was in the hospital, and the coat was completely and totally forgotten about. Ah, poor coat. I almost miss it. But I don't.

Fast forward two or so years later: [livejournal.com profile] subdermalglow gets a job as the secretary of the same church. I learn there is a thrift store at the church. So now I am pretty sure that the coat, after not being claimed, was probably put up for sale in the thrift store, and is hopefully helping keep somebody warm, somewhere in Chicago.
