oh, i was a newspaper copy editor for four years, and the vast majority of my dealings with them indicate that, at least at the bureau level, they don't give a crap most of the time. i called them to hunt down stories, to ask about errors, a number of things... and was met with general disdain, incompetence and "huh?" ... so it's not that i know specific gossipy things, but based on my interactions with them... nobody knows what they're doing.
