Its fate.

It can't be anything but fate.

It turns out that I fell in love with Hawkeye Pierce before I knew Hawkeye Pierce.

Alan Alda did two tracks on Free to Be... You and Me. Which [livejournal.com profile] pheret1 and I grew up on. He collaborated with Marlo Thomas on the song William's Doll and the story Atalanta.

I remember the year in grade school when for our spring pageant we reenacted a bunch of the stories and songs from this record. Yes, the record.

I downloaded my childhood from iTunes today.

Amy, you're in love with Hawkeye Pierce too? We have all the same taste in fictional men!

It's funny...I've never seen MASH, so he's still Arnold Vinnick to me.

Well, I still want it, so if I do come across it, I'll still send you a copy :-)

hey amy, can I ask you yet another CPT question?

I'm trying to decide about full time vr. part time. How much time in the field does "full time" tend really mean? Is there any time off at all? Also, if I were to sign up as a reservist and later want to switch to full time, would that be possible?

Thanks Amy!

You can ask me any CPT questions you'd like :-)

Full time is pretty full time. If you're planning on being in Palestine, you'll go for three months at a time- the maximum you can get on one visa- and then be off for a month. It varies if you end up on different projects- for instance in Colombia most full-timers stay on project for 7, 8, 9 months at a time- but as I know you want Tuwani, I'm assuming you'll be in Tuwani :-) You're totally able to start as a reservist and then go full time, and vice versa (although they tend to get kind of disappointed if you do the latter :-)). If you go full time, you're pretty taken care of. Medical bills are covered (thank god!), and you'll get a monthly stipend adjusted to any needs you might have. A lot of people tend to book speaking engagements on their time off, but that is hardly required.

Does that help?

It's hard to discribe how much that helps. I've been stressing about it because I think in many ways I would really like to be full-time, but I've also got this partner that I'd really like to be able to see. And since we've been doing the long distance thing for a long time and it's finally is starting to look like we might be able to do really see each other(...long story. happy to tell it at some point.), living in a way where that might be possible is kind of important to me. So knowing that just what the schedule would probably be and that it would be possible to switch from reservist to full-time or vice-versa makes me so much less stressed out. YAY, Amy!

Yay Joy! Are you applying for the upcoming January training? Yes, I'd love to hear the story about the partner and all sometime :-) I'm also looking forward to someday working in Tuwani with you. Man, I miss that place!

It's actually a play as well as a record and book, if I recall correctly. I remember seeing the play when I was in grade school (presented by adults).

"A doll! A doll! William wants a doll!"
