Sep. 28th, 2006 11:46 pmIts fate.
It can't be anything but fate.
It turns out that I fell in love with Hawkeye Pierce before I knew Hawkeye Pierce.
Alan Alda did two tracks on Free to Be... You and Me. Which
pheret1 and I grew up on. He collaborated with Marlo Thomas on the song William's Doll and the story Atalanta.
I remember the year in grade school when for our spring pageant we reenacted a bunch of the stories and songs from this record. Yes, the record.
I downloaded my childhood from iTunes today.

Date: 2006-09-30 03:17 am (UTC)I'm trying to decide about full time vr. part time. How much time in the field does "full time" tend really mean? Is there any time off at all? Also, if I were to sign up as a reservist and later want to switch to full time, would that be possible?
Thanks Amy!

Date: 2006-09-30 06:03 am (UTC)Full time is pretty full time. If you're planning on being in Palestine, you'll go for three months at a time- the maximum you can get on one visa- and then be off for a month. It varies if you end up on different projects- for instance in Colombia most full-timers stay on project for 7, 8, 9 months at a time- but as I know you want Tuwani, I'm assuming you'll be in Tuwani :-) You're totally able to start as a reservist and then go full time, and vice versa (although they tend to get kind of disappointed if you do the latter :-)). If you go full time, you're pretty taken care of. Medical bills are covered (thank god!), and you'll get a monthly stipend adjusted to any needs you might have. A lot of people tend to book speaking engagements on their time off, but that is hardly required.
Does that help?
