So I've pretty much spent the entire time since my last post napping fitfully, or lying awake and desperately hoping I wasn't going to puke again. So far, so good. I tried to have some oatmeal, but it... well, lets just say it wasn't a big hit. I managed to take my medication, little by little, with sips of water and long waiting periods in between. I ate a hot dog bun (the most benign bread product we have in the house) about an hour ago to try to soak up some acid, and Benjamin brought home some Coca-cola from the store, which I'm sipping. Both seem to have helped a little; certainly, they haven't hurt.

But if its still this bad by tomorrow, I need to call my doctor. My brand-spiffy-new doctor. At this point, it is my assumption it is related to the Great Medication Switch-Around, but of course, there's no way to prove that. I doubt its food poisoning, since it started a good eight hours after I'd eaten, but its possible that I just ate too much at dinner, and it was my body's way of saying "hey, slow down there, cowboy!" I don't eat whole meals in a sitting very often these days, and last night I had a burger and fries, plus dessert. It could also simply be stress. Its not like "stress" is an unknown factor in my life these days. Of course, back to medication issues, it could be that all the medications I've been on for the last five and a half months have finally succeeded in eating a hole through my stomach. But pardon my cynicism and negativity, please. In the meantime, I'm also experiencing a lot of chills and cold sweats (which I always get when I'm nauseated) and... well, not exactly dizzy spells, not exactly vertigo, but definitely feeling unstable.

Unfortunately, one of the biggest down side of staying curled up in bed all day is that I have a really stiff neck. Really, really stiff neck. It won't crack at all. Makes for one of those nagging headaches.

Urgh.

I'm in a foul mood. What I want is to take a shower, put on clean PJs, have clean sheets on my bed, and climb back in it. But I don't feel strong enough to shower, and Saint Kate is doing my laundry and I don't expect clean sheets till tomorrow- my fault for not asking someone sooner to help me with the laundry. Luckily, I do have clean PJs to put on, but those seem moot if I have dirty sheets and haven't showered yet.

My life has become entirely pathetic.

If you know the pressure points on your head and neck to relieve your headache, you might try that. It will alleiviate one of your problems without putting more meds in your stomach.

The only thing that helped me through that time was crying, and knowing I had a few understanding friends who I could call in the middle of the night, crying. (Crying exhausted me enough to fall asleep for a couple of hours, despite the pain.)

*crosses fingers for you*

Thanks. I don't know the pressure points, but I should learn them. I'm sure that's something I'll learn once I get into the RIC's program. They do all sorts of pain management stuff.

Luckily I do have a sleep aid, although I'm actually not as fond of it as I was the old one. And I've been able to keep down the hydrocodone, so that helps.

Thanks :-)

Congratulations, you're the lucky winner of Amy's journal, in which she does nothing but bitch nonstop about her medical condition! Welcome!

Well, you can look up the traditional acupressure points online. You can also try mushing your head in various spots, for example, gently with each thumb, on the bones that surround your eye sockets, starting at the inside points of your eyebrows.

Next time I see you, I could maybe show you a couple of things. (I studied shiatsu for a bit.)

If I gave e-hugs you would most surely be receiving some from me.

Didn't you just change up all your medications?
Might this be a reaction either to one of the new ones, leaving one of the old ones, or the general chemical confusion?

God, that must suck. I wish I knew how to help. I'd run the washer for ya in a heartbeat if I could reach it!

I'm the world's worst patient and I've never been through something like this. I have to agree though that you manage to still be funny and caring about others in a way that would probably be way beyond me at this point.

Certainly. In fact, I suspect this to be most true. It hasn't really abated, either, which means as soon as I scrape together some energy I need to call my doctor.

Heh, I'm glad people think I'm funny. I suppose it seems a certain subconscious part of me still has its gallows humor about the whole thing. I'm the world's worst patient too, so learning how to sit back and let others help and stuff has been really hard for me to learn.

It's ok that you feel sucky cause we still love you. Now that I'm getting back into the swing of things, we're coming by. Next week?

From now on Sun, Mon, Tues, or Wed nights are ok for us (but Tues night we aren't "home" until almost 10 so it would be a late night).

One of these times we might even try to bring Bankey....

*hugs*

have you called the dr. today? there actually is a stomach bug going around... so since your immune system is already shot right now, it wouldnt surprise me if you picked something else up that has nothing to do with your primary problem. take it easy, rest, and push the clear liquids. oh... and feel better! thats an order lol

Food Poisoning...

Just an FYI, according to the generic mandatory state health classes for food employees, food poisoning takes 24 to 48 hours to incubate, which is why it is the most commonly mis-diagnosed disease out there.

That probably doesn't help.

Feel better.

That's good information to have. I've always been under the impression food poisoning would set in within a few hours. It does help, actually, so even though its opposite information than I had, it still seems to rule out food poisoning in my case.

and that's only "in most cases" and really only relates to food borne illness. if you have a food allergy, those will kick in almost instantly "in most cases"

And, this all depends on your metabolism, immune system, state of health, etc.

It's entirely possible it was food poisoning, but it seems (from this perspective of having not been there) unlikely. Or a more probable side-effect of something else.
