My Firefox weather-forecaster-extension-thingy has informed me of the following:

THUNDERSTORMS MOVING ACROSS THE CITY THIS MORNING HAVE LOWERED
TEMPERATURES CONSIDERABLY...INTO THE MIDDLE 70S. WITH THE STORMS
DEPARTURE...TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO RECOVER AND REACH LATER
AFTERNOON HIGHS IN THE UPPER 80S OR LOWER 90S. THOUGH HEAT INDEX
VALUES MAY ONLY BRUSH 100 DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON, THE EXTREME
HEAT EVENT IS NOT OVER. HOT HUMID WEATHER WILL CONTINUE ACROSS
CHICAGO THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING. THE COMBINATION OF HOT HUMID DAYS
AND WARM MUGGY NIGHTS WILL RESULT IN AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF STRESS
ON THOSE THAT DO NOT TAKE MEASURES TO ALLEVIATE THE HEAT.

ACCORDING TO THE ILLINOIS ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTIONS AGENCY...
ELEVATED OZONE LEVELS ON TODAY WILL COMPOUND THE SITUATION WITH
UNHEALTHY CONDITIONS FOR FRAIL AND SENSITIVE INDIVIDUALS.

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF
DANGEROUSLY HOT TEMPERATURES WILL OCCUR. THE COMBINATION OF HOT
TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A DANGEROUS
SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE LIKELY. DRINK PLENTY OF
FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR CONDITIONED ROOM IF POSSIBLE OR AT LEAST
SPEND SOME TIME IN A COOLED LOCATION...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND
CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS. PROVIDE WATER AND SHELTER
FROM THE SUN FOR PETS.

RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO SHOULD CALL 3 1 1 FOR
INFORMATION ON LOCATIONS OF...AND TRANSPORTATION TO...CITY
COOLING CENTERS.

EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CDT
TUESDAY.

Sorry about the caps, I really didn't feel like retyping the whole thing.

Oklahoma City was on national NPR today for 17 days of triple-digit highs this summer. At least you guys have a lake. :p

I love being part of an "extreme heat event." I just wish weather.com could give me a forecast of other conditions in my life that might result in "an extended period of stress on those who do not take measures to alleviate the" debt, irritability, chicken pox, etc.

hehe. we'll not a big fan of weather.com prefer http://www.nws.noaa.gov/

It sadly does not have the life markers I crave as well.

http://weatherunderground.com is good too. gets forecast/radar info from nws/noaa and local conditions from amateur local weather stations. kinda like weatherbug, but less commercial/intrusive.

I somehow missed them completely. Combination of having my air conditioner in and powerful sleeping pills, apparently. I usually like heavy thunderstorms.

Hmm. So I take it that those "lowered temperatures" lasted for, what, about five minutes? I left my house at 9am and just about died when I walked outside. It's practically as hot and humid as a Tennessee summer. Darn it, Southern summers are one of the reasons I live in Chicago. *whine*

I hope you get to stay inside where it's cool!
