Jul. 16th, 2006 02:26 pmHaving a good day.
At 9:50 this morning,
sleepykins called me to see if I was interested in going to church, to which she and
histrogeek would give me a ride if I were. I assumed it was the product of a comment I left her here on LJ overnight. Turns out, she's just got a great instinct. She knew that I was having a hard time with things going on in the world right now, especially the implosion of the Middle East, and thought I might want to talk to G-d about it.
Eerily, she was not only right, but there were cool things after cool things that happened. Well, only one thing today has been truly cool in a literal sense, but we'll get there.
1)The first thing I noticed, in terms of listening to and talking to G-d was that today's psalm was Psalm 85. Verse ten states "Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will kiss each other." When I say "I noticed", I really mean I NOTICED. I had kind of been zoning out- its hard for me to follow the readings in church, its part of how my brain is affected by that damned gabapentin (Neurontin), so I kind of zoned out. Also, I got out of breath. But that verse jumped out. I know it. We use it for comfort at CPT. I used it for comfort, when I arranged a small worship for my team in Tuwani after our friends in Iraq were kidnapped. So what did I do? I cried. Duh. Not a lot. Just a little. I'm not sure what I got from it, but maybe G-d was using it to get my attention.
2) Now, at the end of services, we have announcement time. Our community (okay, fine, Kate and I, really), since we've moved, has been hoping for a nice dining room table. Something long enough that our whole commmunity could sit for dinner and even have guests. Right now- and for the last two year- we've had two shorter tables that totally don't match that we shove together. So we decided that we'd keep an eye out at thrift stores for one, that might be all beat up that we could decoupage and stuff. But during announcement time, a woman that Kate knows well stood up and announced that they are getting a new dining room set and were wondering if anyone knew someone who could use it. Because I'm too shy, I didn't raise my hand at the time, but asked Chris if, immediately after the service was over if he could flag her down. Better than that, he raised his hand, waved his arms, and pointed at my head dramatically. So we talked after church, where she described a table that, at the smallest seats six, and with both leaves in seats up to ten; five chairs; and a buffet- by which, I think she means a china cabinet. So dashing home, I presented it to my housemates, and all four of them were immediately excited, so I called the woman to let her know we wanted it, and would be arranging transportation to pick it up in the next couple days. YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!!!!!!!
3) I have a friend at church that I only ever see at church- except for the one time we went out to lunch- that I have a very special bond with. It would take my hours to explain why, so I won't right now. We tend to think about each other a lot, and say so when we see each other, but we don't get together for some reason. So today I insisted that we become email buddies, and wrote my email largely on a piece of paper and handed it to him. He seemed excited by the prospect. So I'm hoping we can expand our friendship via email. No teasing- he's gay, so he's not a romantic prospect :-)
4)Another aquaintaince of ours who is a massage therapist, and who has given me advice and support throughout the months has offered to give me a free massage next week. As long as the doctor says its okay. I really trust her, so I'm really looking forward to it.
5) I got bold, and told the (relatively) new priest that I really could use more attention from the church. Whether a priest or deacon or whatever, but having someone from "the outside" check up on my from time to time, being aware of what's going on, and giving me a little bit of spiritual direction. Also, they're aware that neither of my parents are particularly parental- although my dad is desperately trying to be these days- so I need parental-type advice, and Bonnie and Kevin (my priests, for the uninitiated) both smiled and said they could handle that.
6) Non-church-related: WE HAVE WINDOW AIR CONDITIONING UNITS AT THE HOUSE!! And mine is installed, and happily chugging along at 72 degrees, fahrenheit. There were four units in the basement of the house, and Larry checked with the sexton to see if we could use them. At first the sexton was dubious, saying they were church property, so he wasn't sure. Larry then pointed out that we were living in church property. So unless someone comes along and tells us not to use them, we're installing one in every bedroom, so we can all sleep decently through this horrific heat wave. Considering I spend the vast amount of my life right now in my bedroom, this is a comforting thought. In fact, I'm thinking of lighting some incense before I take my nap. Then maybe I'll have lavender dreams.
I'm in a good mood today. Pain level is about six, spoons are quickly depleting, but I'm in a really good mood. So if you'll excuse me, I'm going to eat some oatmeal, then take some pain pills and a nap.
See you on the flip side.
**Ed. note: if something in this post doesn't make sense, you may feel compelled to write to the good folks at Pfizer Drug Company and let them know that Neurontin is fucking with my head in a big way. Thank you.
