[livejournal.com profile] badgerbag is over here collecting quiz questions. Not only do I think its a really cool quiz-in-progress, but I now have the urge to reread all my childhood favorites, including but not limited to Caddie Woodlawn and Misty of Chincoteague.

I should see if my Chicago library card still works.

The only questions over there I even think i knew to forget in the first place are the ribbons (but not why) and the dragonrider stuff.

Well, now... I'm not 100% sure of this only because I haven't seen the incriminating evidence for myself, but

that's because you're not a GIIIIRRRLL!

Well, I think the CPL is still mad at me and might make me pay a lot of money to use my card again. Six or seven years ago I checked out a bunch of music (the Harold Washington branch has an AMAZINg music library!) and lost it. They wanted me to pay a LOT of money which I didn't have, so I didn't pay. On the up side, I eventually found the music- or most of it- but I'm too chickenshit at the moment to walk into the library and go "uh... here's your music... what's my status?"

They *might* be willing to waive the last fine but probably will make you pay for the stuff you lost.

That being said, they keep track of fines *forever*.

Now, now, no need to go all essentialist.

They'll likely take it back. Who knows, it may not even be in the system any more. If nothing else, you may amuse the person(s) you return it to.

A few years ago, I heartily amused a couple of librarians by returning a couple of CPL books I'd packed up and then decided to return. "Hi, I'd like to return a book . . that was due in August . . of 1987." The library had changed systems, and there was no longer a record of either the books or my card. They took the books back, laughed, and sent me down to apply for a new card.

Well, for values of forever that end when they go to new software (see mct Amy, above).
