Dec. 30th, 2005 12:07 pmYou know, I get sick more often than the average bear. Its not a huge deal when it happens- meaning, its not like its a big shocker, and all. I do have the tendency to push myself well beyond my own limits, and my body tends to react pretty violently to it. I've also had a really crappy immune system for a long time, and just deal with it. I take vitamins and supplements, and try to keep echinacea and zinc handy. My first three winters of teaching I was almost constantly sick. This, I was told by both health care professionals and other teachers, is perfectly normal. You know, when you're exposed to all these little petri dishes we affectionatly (mostly) refer to as "children", its hard to fight off every single germ they cheerfully present into your life.
Sometimes, though, I think I have a real gift for this. Okay, I know there was practically an epidemic this spring, but really.... whooping cough? Its an obselete disease! Or at least we all think it is. Although except for a brief icky-ness during my time in Palestine, I haven't even so much as had the sniffles since my cough went away.
Why do I bring this up?
Because I'm sick, and I want to whine about it.
Its less of a shocker than usual this time, although more irritating. I'm surprised more of my co-workers aren't sick, frankly. We've all been operating on unbelieveable levels of stress and lack of sleep and all. But I decided to finally take myself off to the doctor yesterday, to find out that I have a strep infection, which is apparently attacking my ear canal- ear canal?!? I didn't know those could -get- infected- and my throat.
So I'm home today, clogging up our phone line by dialing up on my laptop to check my email and whine. I got antibiotics and eardrops, and I'm giving into my body's desire to do nothing but sleep, and trying not to feel bad about deserting the office. And I'm whining. Lots of whining.
I wish I had popsicles. Popsicles and soup. But I'm broke. More whining.
Anyway, that's my public-to-the-world-information-nobody-really-needs-to-know post for the day. Aren't we lucky that the concept of blogging exists?
Yeah.
