Oct. 9th, 2007 04:25 amOkay, so apparently I'm at the age where I can't be trusted with caffeine after about 3 PM. The result of such a folly is that I am still awake at 4:06 AM.
However, the upside of insomnia is that I have some time and space to do some things I either didn't get accomplished or just plain forgot about earlier. Tonight, after some futzing around on the innerwebs, I remembered to throw up a google search for my childhood best friend, after enduring months of periodic poking from Kate to do so, because I apparently talk about him and our childhood a lot.
I also apparently say "apparently" a lot.
But anyway-
SUCCESS!!! W00t!!! *happy dance* etc., etc., etc...
Yes, ladies, gentlemen, and all in between and outside the binary: the very first hit was his bio page at the university where he now coaches track and field. According to his bio, he had been training for the Olympics in 2004, and hopes to continue to train while working for the school. So I'm incredibly proud of him! And lest anybody think he is just a boneheaded jock, the bio goes on to state that he majored in philosophy in college, and minored in English and Political Science. I knew this guy had a hell of a head on his shoulders by the creative ways he'd lead me into trouble, day after day, when we were but tiny chicks. So for all of you who wonder where I got my propensity for getting into trouble- I learned from the best. Well, okay, some raw genetic talent may have had something to do with it, but.... still, everyone has to have a Zen master.
This song has always reminded me of him-
Fall is here,hear the yell
back to school,ring the bell
brand new shoes,walking blues
climb the fence,books and pens
I can tell that we're going to be friends
Walk with me,Suzy Lee
through the park and by the tree
we will rest upon the ground
and look at all the bugs we found
then safely walk to school
without a sound
Well here we are,no one else
we walked to school all by ourselves
there's dirt on our uniforms
from chasing all the ants and worms
we clean up and now its time to learn
Numbers,letters,learn to spell
nouns,and books,and show and tell
at playtime we will throw the ball
back to class,through the hall
teacher marks our height
against the wall
And we don't notice any time pass
we don't notice anything
we sit side by side in every class
teacher thinks that I sound funny
but she likes the way you sing
Tonight I'll dream while I'm in bed
when silly thoughts go through my head
about the bugs and alphbet
and when I wake tommorow I'll bet
that you and I will walk together again
cause I can tell that we're going to be friends
