Dec. 6th, 2006 11:55 amSo last night marked a little bit of a milestone for me. It was the first time since March that I took the initiative to go out, got dressed, got off my ass, got on the bus, and went somewhere.
I have been thinking about the Chicago sci-fi group meetup since I was first invited to it about a year ago, but haven't gone, for many reasons. But I decided it was about time to go, and I did. I even inspired
dl76,
grayleo and
2049live to go as well- aren't I just a muse? Or is that 'amusing'?
I did have a good time, saw a bunch of people I enjoy who I don't get to see much, and met a few new people.
As life with chronic pain goes, I learned a couple of things:
1) I'm really afraid of ice. I realized, after going barely a half a block down the street from my house, that if I slipped and fell, I'd be fucked. But I didn't slip and fall. So that's good.
2) After waiting for the bus and taking the bus, around two hours is about all I can stand to be in a place unless there are better chairs to be had.
3) I can do more independently than I think I can. Especially if I can get there via the Clark bus.
So we'll see, come January, about going again. Katya and Benjamin are also interested in going- woohoo! I'll admit, it felt kinda good to be descended upon for hugs when I got there. And the icing on the cake was seeing
lcohen, who I haven't seen in a very, very long time and hadn't expected to see there, and getting a ride home from her, too.
All in all, a nice evening.
