The continuing saga....
Feb. 12th, 2006 09:23 pmThings that I threw away (or put in the give-away bag) that it pained me to do so but I did anyway:
- sophomore year (hs) homecoming dress
- note from Ex to his daughter at the beginning of our (his and mine) relationship, explaining that he was dating someone who was 23 (which was actually a lie, because i wouldn't turn 23 for another six weeks) (dont't ask me why a) I kept it, or b) why it was so hard to throw away)
- eight thousand t-shirts from different youth events in hs
- programs from orchestra concerts in college
- letter written to me the night before we left for college by someone who used to be my best friend
Things you couldn't pay me to throw away:
- flannel shirt that was once my grandfather's that I swiped from his closet after he died because it smelled like him- coffee and baking cookies
- Christmas card from someone I was in love with in college, who I'm pretty sure was in love with me at the same time but it was a relationship in fits and starts
- the 80,000 (approximately) letters and postcards sent to me over the course of fifteen years by
dl76
- envelope of train letters from my last weekend at Interlochen (there is an overlap in this with the above item)
- papers written my senior year of HS, including one I wrote in response to viewing Michael Moore's Roger and Me and a persuasive paper on homophobia- I was a little budding activist, even back then! **EDIT: And the paper I wrote comparing the 1969 trial of the Chicago 8 to The Crucible. Which, frankly, I'm very proud of (I <3 Abbie Hoffman!).**
Things I couldn't wait to throw away:
- anything else associated with My Ex
.... oh wait, that's about it ....
Things that were a complete delight to find:
- my paper doll collection (don't ask, cos I don't have a clue, either)
- the Scherzo (equivalent of a yearbook) from my summer at Interlochen
- about half a million photos that I took, or that involved me, spanning from early childhood through college, especially the ones that prove I was actually good looking in high school (something I apparently had no clue of at the time)
- all of the materials I picked up at the Peace Prize congress I went to in college
Things that disturbed me to find:
- hot pink rabbits foot with all the hair rubbed off
- jury papers from college, where the other two profs gave me great comments, and my teacher ripped me to shreds
