I read my very first Harry Potter book last night. I suppose it would have been slightly more entertaining if I hadn't seen the movie first, but I'll have to say that I'm impressed at how true to the book the movie was. I'm looking forward to starting the second one soon.

I've never considered myself the "fangirl" type. Oh sure, I have this thing for Bono, but really- it rarely goes any further than gushing about him from time to time. I buy the music because its good, not because I'm in love with Bono.

I also have a bit of a chip on my shoulder about all things trendy. I'm suspicious of trends. I don't think I'm all so bad as people who assume that just because its trendy, its bad. At least, I don't think I am. I also had to deal somewhat involuntarily with the whole Beanie Baby craze while I worked at a toy store, and get sick of what some people think is important.

So I've let some fads pass me by, including the Harry Potter craze. I've seen the first movie and the third movie, and haven't, until now, read the books.

But there are some things that I'm finding interesting and fun, as I look into them more.

I've become a huge fan of Invader Zim, and of Firefly. I enjoyed my first Harry Potter book enough that I'm willing to go onto the second one (if nothing else, I'm a sucker for a good story line).

In fact, I'm so into Firefly, and the upcoming movie, Serenity, that I've been wondering where my mind has gone. I've watched the entire DVD set, including the special features.

Then I joined a couple of Firefly communities here on LJ.

And was reminded 1)There's nothing in me that could ever be denoted as "Fangirl", not even remotely, and certainly not relatively, and 2)I think I'm glad about that.....

We moved away from this house in 1986, when I was ten years old. It is a small, tract-housing type townhome. I had a very happy childhood (things took a turn for the nasty when we moved to Wheaton), so I have a lot of sentimental attachment to this neighborhood.

I found out that

is the chairman of the parish, at the church where I attended a funeral on Tuesday.

And now for something completely different (if you look closely in the fourth picture, you'll see a picture of me wedged into the mirror frame):

We're having incoming email issues again....... haven't received anything through since sometime yesterday. I was not aware of this because I was out of the office the last day and half, and was decieved by all the mail that had piled up in my inbox in my absence.

Blah.
