I'm getting more and more irritated with people who don't know how to speak respectfully to each other. I'm not sure why. I mean, go ahead and have your beliefs, and feel free to talk about them with someone else, but really... why do we have to continue to be asses to each other? It just gets old. And in an effort to quell such drama in one of the communities I maintain, I've inadvertantly created more. Oy vey is mir!

Aaaaaand, Holy Week is upon us! Its a busy week, but I guess I'm not going to be at church nearly as much as I thought I might be. I was too tired to make it last night, I'm teaching tonight, and I'm going somewhere else tomorrow night. That leaves Maunday Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil (Saturday) and two services on Sunday. Thank God (quite literally) for the champagne brunch on Easter Sunday! Friday after church, I've made plans with [livejournal.com profile] histrogeek and [livejournal.com profile] sleepykins to have a viewing of Jesus Christ Superstar. They looked for a copy of Godspell, but couldn't find it. I've also suggested that perhaps The Life Of Brian might be a nice counterpoint for the evening.

I can not believe how slammed I've been getting at work the last few weeks. See, nary (well, almost nary) an LJ entry for eons!I'm sort of cheating right now. There is technically work to be done, but I'm not doing it. Don't worry, I'll get back to doing it really soon. Its also been crazy around here because we've had a lot of folks from the field coming through the office. More often than not we haven't had enough room at the table for lunch. Does prove exciting, though.

I'm really excited, because I have a chiropractor's appointment tomorrow afternoon. This thing with my neck and shoulders is getting officially out of hand. And if I continue to take this much ibuprofen, whats left of my liver will be gone in no time. Actually, there's a lot of things going on tomorrow.

And yes, I'm ditching the Wednesday evening tenebrae service and choir practice to go see another performance of Haydn's The Seven Last Word's of Christ at Rockefeller Chapel, performed by the Vermeer Quartet. I've been a couple times, and I'm smitten. Its an amazing amalgamation of worship and concert. The pre-concert talk is incredibly illuminating, and even though I've already heard it twice, I am going to make sure I get there early enough for it anyway. I have a dream of someday having a quartet and playing this piece.

I wrangled kids on Saturday. I may or may not wrangle them again this Saturday. It depends on how I feel when I go to bed on Friday night. Yes, I skipped all the Marching and Rallying ballyhoo to do that. But I feel okay about that.

A woman from our church went to federal prison last week, for crossing the line at the annual Convere in Fort Benning Close the SOA protests last November. Its an interesting circle of events; she was carrying with her water and dirt from Colombia that had been collected during a CPT delegation there last fall. I'm really proud of her, and so is the entire church. Proves to me I'm in the right faith community. Again.

You didn't think I'd actually make it through an entire entry without mentioning that I'm tired, did you?

Well, I am. Just thought I'd share.

The Day Before Red Lake, She Listened

A Palm Sunday Chat with Sis Levin

By Greg Moses

In Birmingham, Alabama at 10:30 a.m., news of the protest in Bethlehem has barely begun to appear. But Sis Levin has read one email account, and she is feeling good about what happened. Early that morning the children of Bethlehem had attempted to do what Jesus did 2,000 years ago and ride a donkey into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. Of course, the children this year never made it much farther than a towering concrete wall erected to keep them forever out of Jerusalem. But they launched a nonviolent protest against their occupation. And their parents took the protest right up into the all-to-human faces of the occupying troops themselves. So it is with the pride of a teacher that Levin declares, “It was my children’s idea!”

Levin indeed is the “volunteer” that organizers talk about when they recount the history of the idea for the Palm Sunday action. But not many “volunteers” that you hear about have already had their life story put to film with Marlo Thomas in the leading role. Today Levin is at home recovering from a scheduled surgery. Until she can get back to Bethlehem, her Palestinian students are very much on her mind.
