Although there are far more productive things I could be doing on LiveJournal right now- for that matter, at work, and in life in general- I thought I'd share this really disturbing article with the rest of you.

In lieu of substance, here is a pointless quiz )

So life is getting back to usual. I say "usual", because a certain somebody snickered when I said "normal". The last two days in the office haven't exactly been pressured, but certainly enough to keep me busy enough to not be able to update. I'm sneaking in a few minutes now before I leave for teaching, just to prove to the rest of the world that I'm still... well, that I haven't fallen off the edge of it. Well, the edge of the world. I fell of the edge of a lot of things a really long time ago.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two deaths in the family, and another one impending, it looks like. Those of you who also read my sister, [livejournal.com profile] pheret1 already know what I'm talking about. Enough is enough!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Training ROCKED hard core! I made a whole bunch of crazy new friends, and learned possibly more in one month than I did in my entire two and a half years of college. Days were long and intense, and resulted in a whole lot of self-reflection, but it was all so worth it. I bet I even look trained. More to follow, if I manage to. I do recall that I've said that about my trip to Palestine two months ago, and it hasn't happened yet, but I still hold out hope.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm going to try to be more intentional about cultivating my friendships. I don't know how this will work, considering my schedule is insane, and I'm pathologically disorganized. But I'm really going to try. Hard. There are old friends that I need to see more of, and new (-ish) friends I need to get to know better. I'm going to try to invest more time in people. Please note the use of the word try.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Along those lines, I'm thinking of finally giving up teaching. I'm going to take the month of February to really think hard, and discern if it is the right thing to do. I'm leaning heavily towards "give it up", but I want to make sure that's what I really want before I take action on it. I need to think long and hard about the level of regret I may or may not feel if I do give it up. Although the only student I have that I'd really miss I've already had for five years, so its probably about time to pass her along anyway. But maybe I'd miss doing it?

I guess these aren't very random, after all. They're all pretty related. But here's one that's completely off-topic:

The best thing about running late to work is that you get to ride the el into the loop with your housemate that you've hardly seen in three months! I had a great time with [livejournal.com profile] subdermalglow this morning, while we were both actually awake. It was fabulous!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My discman is dying. If anyone trips over a homeless iPod, please rest assured that I will be someone who can give it a great home. I didn't realize how much listening to music on the el keeps me sane until I started doing it. Dios mio!
Happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] sleepykins!
Also, happy 103rd birthday to the late, amazing Langston Hughes.
