An excerpt of an email I got today from my pastor:

Hello York Center Friends,
Ruth and Mark have been in the process (for many months) of
adopting four year old Estefani from Guatemala. They received a phone call this week telling them to go to Guatemala to welcome their new daughter and bring her home. They were not expecting the call quite so soon. They are very excited and are making plans to fly to Guatemala
Saturday morning and return Tuesday evening.

Please keep Ruth and Mark in your prayers as they travel and meet their new daughter. Please keep Arthur, Arbie, and Gideon in your prayers as they prepare for their new sister. And don't forget the proud grandparents, Mary and Ned.

Estefani was a little girl who was in orphanage in Guatemala with another little girl who was adopted by a family at our church last year, Lidia. I'm not sure what the ailment is, but Estefani suffers from some kind of disorder like hydrocephalus, something that causes the brain to swell. She and Lidia were very good friends in the orphanage, and when Lidia got adopted, she was devastated to leave Estefani behind. Lidia begged her new family to also take Estefani, but they already had two boys as well as Lidia, and just couldn't do it, emotionally or financially. They appealed to families at church when they got back to see if anyone could take her. There were three or four families who seriously considered it, and this is the family who was finally able to do it. Its been a rough, unpredictable time, as international adoptions usually are, and everyone is overjoyed that she is coming home so soon. There's a great deal of adoption in our little congregation- there's at least six families I can think of off the top of my head, and there's probably only between sixty and seventy families in the church- so its nice to know there's a lot of support.

Anyway, this is my happy thing, and I just wanted to share.
